0% chance Click trades Urquidy for Choi straight up. If those guys are in the deal there would be other players involved. I could see Odorizzi for Choi straight up.
Yea, my one negative on that trade was Leon. I really want to keep him. I think he had one issue and has already made strides in fixing it. He’s got all the tools after that and plays a position we are not blocking him in, at all, it’s a need actually. Hope we can keep him. I’m fine with any of the rest, save maybe Brown.
We need to go get Vasquez. I think he is better overall hits better and defensively better. Plus cheaper.
Yea, I like him. I just wonder if the Astros don't want to spend the prospects for Vazquez when they will still have Maldy starting 4/5 games. It wouldn't shock me if they went with a lesser player.
Not sure if anyone watched Astros bases loaded. Click was speaking to the kids about the importance of the farm system for continual growth. It was good to hear.
I think that a player of Urquidy's caliber would be used for a bigger acquisition like Reynolds, or possibly a package of Mullins and Trey Mancini. I wonder what the Red Sox are asking for J.D. Martinez?
It's a risk. He has an opt out for next year that he vested recently. If he gets hurt you eat 22.5 million next season.
Luckily we can eat that for the gamble next year. We would have Games 1, 2 and 3 starters unquestioned.
5 years ago when JD could still play some Of non disastrously be went for barely anything, so less than that I would assume. 2 40 grade guys I would guess.
That could easily prevent the Astros from being able to bring Verlander back if it goes bad, and this is a guy who had his arm practically fall off during the regular season last year.
One thing I think is accepted among MLB front offices is that the current season is valued equal to an entire season (rather than a half season), because teams are acquiring players solely to accomplish their ultimate goal of making the playoffs and winning playoff games. So that means the war for war calculations of these trades are off, especially for rentals. For example, most people would look at Josh Bell and say he’s got about 1 war projected (which is valued at $8M-$12M), but really his trade value should be closer to an entire seasons war, because he will be available for the entire playoffs. That more than doubles the price. And I think that will be reflected in the deals we see (which it already is reflected in the Castillo deal, although I think that was still an overpay even in that context).
That’s the bad, the good is he’s been healthy this year and could even come out of the pen in a big spot. That lefty arm. I wonder what the ask is because he’s the best arm on the market and arguably better than Castillo.
