Thought they'd play hardball and go down to the last day, but they didn't waste any time. Great to get him started on his pro career.

Here are the undrafted players who have reportedly agreed to terms with the Astros. The $20,000 cap that had been in effect for the last two drafts has now been lifted. Teams can now sign undrafted free agents for up to $125K without having it count against their bonus pool once again. Logan VanWey, RHP, Missouri Southern State Austin Temple, RHP, Notre Dame
I might've used Clifford's entire bonus instead of the amount that counts against the pool. I got $342,530 over now.
2 reasons I love this: 1. Clifford mentioned being excited about our player development. Going off my response to another post about the media ranking our prospects so low yet we have some all star caliber players that have come up from the “low ranked farm” 2. Everyone passed on him cuz he committed to Vanderbilt. Now they hate the Astros for making it happen with him in the 11th lol. Love it.
Clifford seems like a very mature, eloquent, driven kid. Good first impression. He also looks like he is destined for 1B.
Could be, but that arm… put it in the outfield. Dude was sending lasers to home plate in that try out thing.
That's what makes the MLB draft so different from the other 3 major sports. Angst over signing the 343rd player drafted.
Not to mention that the 343rd player drafted can sometimes be a better, higher regarded prospect than the 100th player drafted. This draft gives players ( high school players and underclassmen) legitimate options if they don't sign. That gives an extra wrinkle of uncertainty and strategy that front offices need to use. In this case, Clifford would have most likely been picked on day one if teams didn't think they could not sign him. Click and his team planned it out and stole a value from other teams. Now we will see if he is the RF or 1B of the future.
Scenario #1: Clifford: I want 1.2 large Other MLB Teams: Yeah, no. How about 0.75 large? Astros: Sure. Scenario #2: Clifford: I want 2.5+ large except I tell the Astros I will take less Other MLB Teams: In your dreams. Astros: How about 1.2 large and our development team? Clifford: Yes, please.
It sure sounded like he never wanted to go to college in that interview yesterday. I think he was just playing the game to get the biggest bonus available. *and maybe manipulating the teams/system to help determine which team he landed on.
High School Draft Picks and International Prospects are Choosing to be with the Astros. Astros Winning Reputation and Friendship Brotherhood in the Locker Room. Latin Players looking up to Altuve, Alvarez, Pena, Valdez, Urquidy, Javier and many more. Young Hunter Brown look up to Justin Verlander for example as a Tiger Fan. Prospects want to be Teammates with the Astros, which is Awesome.
Don't discount the Yuli factor for Cuban players. I hope the team offers him a post career position in the organization recruiting Cuban and Latin American players and hitting.
Huh? Do you mean that he'll be included in a Josh Bell trade package? How soon can he be traded? Does he have to be a PTBNL?
Where did that come from? Do you expect the Astros and Nationals to make a trade next year? Because draft picks can't be traded during the season they were drafted ( or be PTBNL)
