Hahaha apart from EG who I would have named if he wasn’t turning 34 a few months into the season who else has dons as much as KPJ in the NBA on the roster? I would hope Jalen does become the best player by the end of the season or KPJ at least continues his play towards the end of the season to at least still be in the discussion but the team has had the worst record for two seasons. John Wall was the best player while he played I guess, before Wood got traded it was him and right now it’s KPJ.
You know you can like Sengun without having to attempt to tear other players down, right? No one hates KPJ like superfans of his teammates, doesn't matter if it's Sengun superfans or Green superfans....we'll have to check in on the Josh Christopher superfan to see if the disease has spread to him. It's so weird being a Rockets fan in this sea of player specific fans.
I'm just stating a fact. KPJ could be a good 6th man, but if he thinks of himself as "the man" on a level with Green (and he is clearly trying to position himself like that), then that will lead to problems.
That's hilarious. All of that conflict is happening in your head. The two are complimentary players that are friends both on and off the court. The Rockets are developing a team, there is no "the man". They are a collection of highly talented super young players that all bring different things to the table. Green brings freak athleticism and the ability to create his own shot and be a monster in transition and is a streaky 3 point shooter. Sengun brings a post presence and elite passing ability that few centers have Smith brings elite defense 1-5 and 3 point shooting KPJ brings a little bit of all of that...which is why he's currently the most talented player on the roster. He's not the best at any one area, but he can do it all. If Green develops some PG skills and has the ability to create for others as well as himself, we'll have 2 guards that can take turns slicing up defenses....and a center that can do the same. There's really no way to adequately defend that. "The man" would be whoever is hot that night. The burden of carrying the team wouldn't fall on any one player....which is the best for all of them.
So please tell me who the best player on the team is! Also, why did the we put the ball in KPJ’s hands whenever the game was on the line? Sounds like the coaches believes he’s our best player as well
KPJ's fans are slowly becoming like the LOFs used to be. Just absurd obsession over a mediocre player
How many teams are ‘tanked’? Rox could be well improved, competitive, maturing and still be in Bottom 5 come lotto luck nite.
Yes, there was some extrinsic factors dictating things in the Rockets team makeup and mindset that kinda threw the whole grand scheme of things off kilter a tad last season. Some just look at the stats and assume everything was as the stats appear. If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck then its a duck......well maybe it's a decoy? I didn't see the T-Wolves enough to say they were tanking, but Ant-Man had KAT (5 yrs), Rubio (9 yrs) and DeAngelo Russell (5 yrs) helping. Our vets helping Jalen were C Wood, Eric Gordon, Augustin, House, Nwaba. Two of our main rotation guys in Wood and EG i often saw freeze out and not pass to Green. It was obvious to those who saw the game that Green was put in timeout for half the season and set into the corner as a spot shooter. Grant it the team tried to run PnR with Theis screening and Porter/Green learning on the fly to start the season.....spacing was an issue. Where Theis was a big part of the Celtics success about 3 years ago, defenses are too smart and now scheme well for Theis type numbers from 3. Teams just left Theis open and clogged the paint. Tate defender did the same. Rockets essentially had four defenders clogging the paint since Green and Porter didn't help matters by shooting poorly from 3 to start the season. The only one bringing spacing was Wood (Sengun was not starting); but then Wood went on strike after game 8 to force Theis out. Green tweaked his hamstring and it took the Rockets a long time to allow Green to open up on the highway again due to building up trade value of certain players. Ant-Man probably had much the same going on in year one. I feel Edwards was allowed to turn it on around game 40 where Green was held back until after the All Star break. Definitely after top 3 losing record was guaranteed. I often compare the Rockets rebuild to the Hawks where they went from about 20 wins to around 42.....I didn't get my free agent(s) I was hoping for to get us in that range. But T-Wolves went from 23-49 in Ant's rookie season to 46-36 last season (Ant's second year). I'm guessing Rockets can get in the 30 to 35 range as is. ______________________ Jabari is a perfect Pick-n-Pop player which will help Porter/Green/Christopher/TyTy get to the rim with greater regularity....or at least be greater threats of getting to the rim. Jabari is not much of a Roll Man in PnR just yet; but I don't feel he against working on that with our development staff. Unlike Dwight Howard and Christian Wood who I feel worried about sprained ankles way too much. Tari impressed the heck out of me with his ability to Roll to the basket in summer league. Catch and gather and get the ball in the hoop in traffic during summer league. It will be tougher in the NBA.....but the basics are already there and I'm anxious to see Tari with Sengun, Green, Porter, Christopher with the spacing provided (Green, Porter, Mathews, Bari). ____ Jabari can shoot the corner 3; from there I want some Princeton offense where he can make back door cuts along the baseline. I envision Porter/Green or any facilitator driving and forcing the gravity of the defense on them while Jabari slashes to the rim from either corner for lob dunks. Just getting that 6'11' frame with momentum towards the rim will be a weapon. And increase assist totals for everyone. Sengun in the post will hit a slashing Jabari coming from the weak side. It's going to be beautiful. Tari I feel can hit the corner 3 as well (from having no corner 3-pt shooters to possibly having two is tremendous to this offense). I feel Tari can be much the same as Bari from the corners. Read and react to the defense. Everyone gets their cues. If everyone reads correctly....this can be very fun seeing them in sync either hitting an open 3 or lob dunks from slashers with just a look. -------- 3-pt shooting: there is a fine line as to what constitutes a good 3-pt shooter to a bad 3-pt shooter. 40% is good while 30% is bad. The difference is 1 more 3-pt made shot; from making 4 out 10 (good) to making 3 out of 10 (bad). Tari and Jabari don't seem afraid to shoot 3's. Which is what I want. I want them to have the guts to shoot 8 attempts a game each. Shoot it with confidence. Shoot 1000 a day. Become automatic. Second nature. Tate and Kenyon lack that confidence. Shooting just 3 a game doesn't cut it. Embiid, Tobias Harris, Jokic can shoot 3's with a decent a everage but shooting 40% from 3 and only attempting 3 a game is not earth shattering. It doesn't fear anyone. Now shooting 8 attempts a game at 37% or 38% worries teams more. *Side Note: I'm hoping Tate, Kenyon, Sengun come in this season and shoot the 3 better. In Sengun case, better from 3 than just the first 20 games. -------- Defense is where Tari and Bari can help immediately. Yes the rotations will be slow at first. But their length will alter some shots. Get deflections. Add some rebounds. Defensive rebounds count towards defense. DRtg and defense in general for NBA players is often more about who your teammates are. How is the help defense? Communication. Bari and Tari seem to add a bunch of talk and communication. Back tier defenders see the play and set up of the offense in front of them. Helps us point of attack defenders to have those eyes telling us where the screens are coming from and which side to favor. This will be getting really fun to watch.
@marinara After that long read, just a little side note. *I was hoping for Chris Boucher or Bamba or Mitchell Robinson or Myles Turner (trade) *Rockets supposedly we're looking at Center going into free agency. *We did not go "All Out" for said Center I suspect. Why? Are we "Tanking" again and don't want money tied up at the Center spot? Because we are somewhat reserving a spot for Wembanyama... (or Dereck Lively/Kel'el Ware as consolation prize)? Are we truly giving Sengun and Garuba a good look? Don't cramp the Sengun progress? Did we not want to take back bad contracts? Added payroll? Are we truly done "TANKING"?? [ I suspect not ]
I think they will both have a big year, I do think Ego needs to go though for the numbers to really pop. DD
EGo will be gone when the right situation presents itself. Rockets have shown great patience and loyalty to EGo for all he's done for the team.
I'll put it like this, same with Wood last year but a little different considering their age. Scoot better have a good year and put the team in a position to where they won't be forced to draft his replacement whomight actually be named Scoot, ironic enough. So we'll see. If the Rockets are better this year it'll be because KPJ matured as a player, his skills are already there, he just has to mentally put it all together and consistently there, if he does that, he can put the team in a position to contend for a play-in position...
I just don't like how y'all corner Sengun into being a post player only. A lot of y'all compare him to Scola. But I actually see a lot of Ginobili in him. An asset of him being shorter than most bigs is that he's quicker and gets around them easy. Soo many of those behind the back drives and reverse finishes gave me Ginobili flashbacks. Not to mention his Ginobili like creativity and passing. That's what makes me soo excited about him. He's like Scola and Ginobili in one player.
The two best players were Green and Porter. Yes, we understand Porter is a headcase, but he was better than Sengun, and quite frankly as far as raw talent goes, he is the most talented player on the team. Whether he can grow up and knock off the knucklehead stuff, that remains to be seen.
