This. A lot of fans for the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers seem to think that Andrew Benintendi is a major addition for the Yankees. To me he is a decent fit, but he isn't a major difference maker. He hits for almost no extra base power. If that is their offensive improvement, I can live with that - and the Yankees didn't get him for free, they paid a reasonable rate. My concern is they get Castillo. I was talking to a former Astros front office executive that now works for a competitor of the Astros, and he was talking about how the statistical measures do not accurately depict the difference between having Castillo starting in the playoffs and someone like Javier or Garcia starting for the Astros.... and then keeping Castillo from pitching for the Yankees. His interests don't align with the Astros anymore, but his is of the opinion that the Astros have to make the deal if it isn't just gutting the team. He said he would give up Garcia, Leon and Whitley without much of a second thought.
Why would you be all of getting paywall material? It's just theft. I know @J.R. loves to steal and post it to get all of his likes, but there are real people with real jobs employed to bring content, edit the site, etc. If you think it is BS content and don't want it, don't read it. If you think it is good content, pay for it. But it takes moral gymnastics to say "I want to be able to read it, but for free". And @Clutch has been very clear he doesn't want it just posted here, which is why JR has just started pasting without credits.

This should be obvious to anyone. Benintendi in the middle of the big boys makes them more dangerous every time they go to the plate with Tendi at 1st. We should not be mad we missed out on him even if we believe the cost was low. Still disappointed that teams like Toronto allowed it to happen tho. Having said that, we still in it, can't wait for our deals to come through
They are looking at everything, they have been exhaustive in looking at ways to improve the team.... from CF to 1st, to corner outfield bat, they have even talked about JD Martinez.... catcher..... top end starters and even bullpen arms. They want to squeeze more quality bats in the line up and if possible add a hammer at the top of the rotation.
I don’t know the advanced stats, and while benitendi is a formidable outfielder, Gallo is polarizing because of his strikeouts, but he’s a valuable player because of his defense/arm. I do think this is a good pickup for the reasons you referenced, but feel like Gallo gets a bad rep because his value comes in ways casual fans don’t entirely appreciate, especially when mixed with the optics of a high K rate.
Doesn’t want entire articles posted. Didn’t post the entire article, posted the Astros relevant stuff. Boo****inghoo. How is Ken Rosenthal and little cmel gonna survive? Poor little cmel. Keep crying (and reporting me). WiLl SoMeOnE PleAsE ThInK oF pOoR LitTlE KeNnY RoSeNtHaL AnD hIs EdItOrS?! Can I speak to the site manager? He’s posting The Athletic. NOT ALLOWED! — Karencmel
I agree I would think it would be closer to: Urquidy, Meyers, and Brown for Mullins alone. For Mullins and Mancini add another 2 prospects. ( 1 @ 5-10 and 1 @ 10-15 range)
Well, seeing what your original writing looks like, I can see why you prefer to steal from others. BTW, not that you give a **** about anything but your likes, but sites that allow IP theft from companies owned by the NYT don't tend to end well. There is a reason Clutch posted what he did. But, by all means, keep doing your childish AlL CaPs KAreN RaNTs.
The advanced stats aren't in his favor this year. He was a positive defender by both Fangraphs and Baseball Reference the last 4 seasons but is negative by both this season. He comes by the jeering honestly this year; he's a negative on both sides of the ball.
Siri has already put up about $10M in surplus value in his short MLB career and he projects to put up about $40M more over his remaining controllable years. Yes watching him strike out isn’t fun, but he’s a valuable player due to his defense, power, and baserunning. Guys like him don’t grow on trees.
Wow. That is a haul. But seeing that he's got another year of control (and if Verlander resigns) it'd be like running the 2019 team back out for this season and next. That actually seems like a pretty reasonable thing to do.
You are correct. *I didn't realize he's absolutely double plus on defense. If you go by rate stats, he is easily the single most valuable defensive OFer in baseball this year: 32.7 UZR/150 UZR (ultimate zone rating): The number of runs above or below average a fielder is in both range runs, outfield arm runs, double play runs and error runs combined. UZR/150 (ultimate zone rate per 150 games): The number of runs above or below average a fielder is, per 150 defensive games. Even if you went by UZR, which is a counting stat, he'd be the 3rd most valuable OF defender: ahead of Benintendi and behind Myles Straw, both of which have double the innings in the field. Guess I gotta join the Siri hype train. The dude has value.
Not trying to get too political but there are no longitudinal studies on the vaccines and it's no deadlier than the flu to healthy people under 50. Also, there is a stated side effect for myocarditis risk in young males. For an athlete that is something that could end a career, covid largely isn't.
