Miguel Palma homered in his first plate appearance for Asheville. He now has 7 home runs on the year.
Sugar Lands lineup is so deep right now. There have been AAA rosters in Houston’s system with more total talent but this current lineup is about as deep as I’ve seen in terms of 1-9 guys who can hit. Even De Goti and Costes are probably underrated, both those guys can hit; and those guys would sit most games if the mgr put out his best lineup with Brinson and Siri in it.
For the second consecutive season, Enmanuel Valdez is the first player in the system to hit 20 home runs.
And just like that… the Astros have 3 bats in their system that could project to be very good MLB hitters. Pedro Leon, Emmanuel Valdez, Yanier Diaz, I have a feeling we will lose one in the next 10 days.
Pedro Leon's K/BB rates in July jump off the page. 14 walks and only 8 K's in 67 PA, and he's actually hitting (.306 and a .490 SLG). No clue what adjustments he's made, but with his tools if this plate discipline sticks he's an elite prospect. Trading Valdez or Diaz right now would make me very nervous. I get that the tools for Valdez don't seem to set off bells, but the power display he's put on at an advanced level is really hard to ignore. Diaz has done nothing but hit, everywhere. He had a bit of a slump when he got to AAA but is now right back to raking in July. Ultimately you gotta give to get, but I get Ben Zobrist flashbacks with these 2.
Totally agree about Leon. What he is doing this month shows he can cut the k rate, and that was the only orange flag in his profile. He could be special. I really, really hope they do not trade him.
Leon is Click's guy. He pretty much put all of the IFA eggs in the Leon bag, so you have to think he's been a huge believer in him from the jump. I agree him getting moved right now would sting, but if he does Click probably has a really good reason for it.
i think at this point Leon and Diaz are off the table. Brown will be the headliner in a significant trade. The other 2 would only be moved in a Soto package and that ain’t happening.
Is The PCL league playing with bouncy balls? Taylor Jones 472 ft dinger Pedro Leon 460 ft Yanier Diaz 460/475 sheesh.
Pretty much. That league is very hitter friendly. For reference, Corey Julks’ 832 ops is roughly league average (wRC+ of 101). Both Houston’s high a and AAA leagues are hitter friendly. That’s why for me AA stats carry a lot of weight when evaluating prospects in Houston’s system.
