After 325 pages he knows the deal, he'd just rather spew out the same crap over and over.

That doesn't mean the system worked. If a car can't go faster than 10mph, it is broken even if it isn't completely shut down. But nobody would buy a car that only goes 10 mph.

What is worse is that many people are saying we should just forget about the person that wrecked the car so that it will only go 10mph. And many are pushing for him to be put in charge of the car dealership and auto repair shop.

Hopefully this trial isn't the only thing to address what Trump did.

I imagine you punish the offender then close all loopholes and reinforce the checks and balances threatened by another election thief.

aside from a three or four hour period of chaos, the system worked. I get it that Jan 6 worriers think it's the worst thing that ever happened

Yep. One of the 1/6 members last night stated clearly that actually 1/6 was successful given where it took the GOP and how our Democracy will cave overnight if the GOP does nothing to change course and they eventually get Trump back in office which is what they are poised and openly planning to do in the coming months. Also people died… so yeah… it was successful in both instituting a lie, causing “American Carnage”, and creating a truly militia driven fascist party that is poised to take power because people like OsTrig are too entertained by trolling Libs online than they are about helping their party organize to rally around a Republican Party that actually will uphold Democracy and the Constitution.

Not to mention the success 1/6 had at destabilizing the US as a global power. Because of 1/6 it led all of Europe to move their chess pieces in a major way. The EU starting to form what looks like could eventually become its own collection of nation states as a superpower on par with what the US was pre 1/6. 1/6 was a pretty major event and has the potential to completely reshape everything not just here but around the globe. You know damn well the EU is planning for what happens in 24 and making sure they are ready to cut the US off as a pariah state if we slide into some form of civil war and corporate America realizes it’s better off basing its home in Europe or another country.

He's been lying about a stolen election and/or not accepting results for six years. That's a lot longer than a few hours.

There is no way it worked. The plan to use counterfeit electors was more than just those hours. The plan to replace and insert people that would along with those plans was more than just those few hours.

What we've learned from these hearings that nobody knew before watching, is how far and premeditated it all was.

A working system would not have allowed that. A working system would not have allowed the nation's leader to head those plans and start putting them into place. A working system would not allow that person to still be the leader of one of the two parties in our nation. Again, it may not be completely shut down, but it didn't work and is currently broken.

People that are refusing to help repair the car and believe that it is okay to let it keep running at a max 10mph, aren't helping. The mechanic that certified the car and the driver of the car might have their feelings hurt if we announce that it isn't working and take efforts to repair it.

The dealer that sold the broken car might face fines and jail time if he's held accountable, but it will prevent others from being sold cars that only go 10 mph, and also prevent people from mistakenly believing the car still works simply because it isn't completely shut down.

There are folks that have a vested interest in making the claim that the hearings aren't fair and haven't produced anything we didn't already know.

I've listed many things we didn't know and additional context about some things we knew parts of that came out during the hearings.

That's what many GOP supporters want. A nation with a GOP leader forever, and if that takes getting rid of the vote of the people so what. Screw Democracy if it means we can rule forever.

But seriously, I'd rather we "overreact" than having to roll back a sitting executive who has full powers at his disposal.

They aren't going to resign, and the track record for impeachment through congress is spotty, if not downright impossible.

One of the best quotes from last night...

"Doors have opened," Cheney said. "New subpoenas have been issued and the dam has begun to break."

    Trump's response today...

"Liz Cheney is a sanctimonious loser."

    I know he is worried.

I think Trump's nickname should be Mr. Antonym. Whatever he says, just think the opposite and you will find truth.

Liz Cheney seems a bit like the GOP version of Tulsi Gabbard

I don't think so. Cheney was the 3rd highest-ranking Republican. She is seeking re-election and has risked it all on principles. Gabbard wasn't in any leadership position, didn't seek re-election, and wasn't risking anything. She's more like Marianne Williamson, except wasn't anywhere near as interesting. Yes, I do miss Williamson.

no, I meant it more in a going-against-the-party-grain-for-the-sake-of-going-against-the-party-grain's sake. I think Cheney and Gabbard both sort of delight in marching to the beat of a different drummer--for better or worse.

I don't think either was doing it (going against the party) for the sake of just doing it. The differences are in why.

Gabbard was frankly a nobody with limited influence on the Democrat side. She was not risking her job (already decided to not run for Congress) and going after Dem is a personal gain for her. She went from collecting a congresswomen's salary (200k yearly) to collecting a Fox News salary ($2M + 400k performance bonus yearly).

Cheney was 3rd in leadership and influential on the Republican side. She has already lost her leadership position and is very likely to lose her re-election. When you are risking those, you are doing it for something else (on principle).

One of the few Republicans left that actually isn't throwing away their principles for the sake of staying "loyal to Trump" because they are more worried about GOP backlash then condemning Trump's attempt to steal an election, incite a coup, and sit back and watch the violence.

Actually, the system failed. Trump exposed the weaknesses in the system that we have taken for granted (for good reason - we have always expected the POTUS to peacefully and orderly transfer power). Yes, there was a transfer of power, but it wasn't peaceful or even orderly. What worked against a much darker scenario was there were people in positions that refused to do the wrong things. Without those people in place, Trump could still be in power or we would be in some constitutional crisis. A working system would not be so dependent on people NOT doing the wrong things. I know we can't have a system that is completely independent of people's morals and ethics, but we can get much better at it.
