Hear from a few of the draftees! Zach Cole (10) has not signed, but he'll get a couple of days to celebrate before heading to the Astros facility in Palm Beach. Fun fact about Joe Mancini (15):
Let me take the time to thank all the posters who updated the draft thread with the picks, information, tweets, probable picks, insight and everything else in between. I know nothing of the college game or the top high schoolers, so you all provided a lot of valuable info. Thanks!
@tellitlikeitis has always been amazing during this time. Lots of knowledge, updates, and posts. Makes keeping informed about a lesser known part of the Astors so much easier, THANK YOU!
Garrett McGowan (17) added "Houston Astros Organization" to his Twitter bio, so he's either signed or will be signing soon. Notre Dame RHP Austin Temple is reportedly signing as an undrafted free agent.
Just looked at all our draft picks and even our later round guys really produced. Most of them put up some gaudy numbers. - P Tyler Guilfoil (UK) 80 strikeouts in 51 innings; 1.59 ERA and .86 WHIP. Articles said he was up to 95mph but on youtube against Tenn he was 89-92mph - P Brett Gillis (Port) 115 strikeouts in 84 innings; 2.24 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Couldn't find much on him. - OF Zach Cole (Ball St) .361/.449/.727 with 13 homers - SS Zach Dezenzo (Ohio St) .319/.413/.700 and crushed 19 bombs - SS Jackson Loftin (ORU) .349/.447/.572 with 10 homers and 25 steals - SS Tommy Sacco (TCU) .355/.443/.645 with 14 homers and 18 steals - SS Tim Borden (GT) .316/.448/.658 with 18 homers - 1B Garrett McGowan (PittSt) .399/.478/.755 with 18 homers We just need one of these late round hitters to turn into something. Garrett McGowan has hit at every level he's played at and was really good in the Northwoods Summer league in 2021 as well, hoping he's our 1B of the future and not some big masher who just beats up on lower competition.
I think Houston can go $300k over their pool without penalty. They can offer $125k to Clifford based on where they drafted him. So they’re starting with $425k, $555k after the below slot deal with DeVos. But it’s going to take a lot more than that to get Clifford to sign. It will be a pretty crummy draft if they don’t sign Clifford or Jackson.
