https://theathletic.com/3295039/2022/05/05/monty-williams-pop-effect-coaching-searches/ More Monty and the everlasting Gregg Popovich influence Just because Pop isn’t in the playoffs for the third consecutive season doesn’t mean his influence isn’t still being felt. Far from it, in fact. As longtime San Antonio sports anchor Don Harris pointed out on Twitter on Tuesday, six of the remaining eight coaches in the playoffs either played for the Spurs legend or started their coaching career under him. Williams: Played for the Spurs from 1996 to 1998, and was a coaching intern in the 2004-2005 season when they won the title. Philadelphia’s Doc Rivers: Played for the Spurs from 1994 to 1996, when Popovich was the team’s general manager and vice president of basketball operations. Memphis’ Taylor Jenkins: Was a Spurs coaching intern for the 2007-08 season, then worked as an assistant coach and head coach for San Antonio’s D-League team, the Austin Toros, from 2008 to 2013. Boston’s Ime Udoka: Played for the Spurs from 2007 to 2009 and again in the 2010-11 season; he was a Spurs assistant coach from 2012 to 2019 Milwaukee’s Mike Budenholzer: Was a Spurs assistant from 1996 to 2013. Golden State’s Steve Kerr: Played for the Spurs from 1998 to 2001 and again in the 2002-03 season. Williams, who dropped a vintage Popovich “appropriate fear” reference after Game 1 that sparked this discussion, chatted about his mentor’s impressive coaching tree before Game 2. “He’s done a lot for (coaches) — he and (longtime Spurs executive) RC (Buford) — but in particular Pop,” Williams began. “They’ve created opportunities for people to figure out what they want to do. Whether you played or you didn’t play, that place has always been somewhat of an opportunity school, if you will. When you get there, they don’t tell you what to do. You’re invited to join and see if you want to do it and then look at all the options. And that’s what Pop told me. “He’s like, ‘Look … you’ve got to figure it out. I can’t tell you what to do.’ And they just laid it out for me and said, figure it out. He’s done that for, I don’t know, countless people. And it’s changed a lot of lives. I wouldn’t know what to do if I had to start on my own. The (daily routine) of a coach had to be laid out for me. I had P.J. Carlesimo, Don Newman, Brett Brown and RC to keep the foot in my tail every day when I was amiss. There were a few choice words that I can’t say to the listening audience, but it helped me with the direction.”
I think it's much more likely they know they aren't competing so why bother doing a Rockets and drafting with pick #14 each year? But you know, I could take a one sided approach too like you to try and make a point. Dejounte is good just like I said, that's why the Hawks finally woke up and gave multiple first round draft picks to get him. Man, it's easy only painting half a story to try and shape a narrative.
They will have a better record this year than last year: devin vassel is ready to win MIP, he’ll raise his ppg to 20. Josh Primo will improve. The spurs sold high on Murray. Pop obviously didn’t believe in him. Just like white who is good but a limited player. I like some of the spurs talent.
Nice fan to Dejounte = Spurs are good and he loves them. Bad fan to Dejounte = Spurs suck he's glad he escaped. But spicy clapback none the less and I'm here for any Spurs drama.
Yeah, rockets might want one of those coaches when the core is a little more solid and we can't tank our way into missing pieces.
SA is not a bad town to live in honestly. Houston has gotten much more dangerous in the last few years.
Houston has horrible crime, I'm not defending it. But I decided to look up San Antonio for fun: https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/t...~:text=With a crime rate of,here is one in 21. https://www.bestplaces.net/crime/city/texas/san_antonio https://realestate.usnews.com/places/texas/san-antonio/crime It's not really any better, per-capita
I have lived in both places. Closer to Boerne then SA. Comparing downtowns, Houston is also a bit more sketchy. Don't we lead the nation in murders now? Crazy.
When the Cartels get bold enough to engage cops in open firefights, and bust their assassins out of prision, then you know the border situation is FUBAR. It's gotten so bad HPD won't do raids in much of the city, they'd rather leave it to the animals selling fent and crack in the communities while killing off civilians for kicks. "Law-abiding citizens should not be allowed to protect themselves! That will stop criminals!"
Houston west inner loop is better than anything in San Antonio If you’re a rich athlete, just live in the loop
France - Tony Parker I believe told The Spurs should go After Victor Wembayama of France. Spurs are trading Dejounte Murray for Picks and are going full Tank Mode for Victor, Similar to Tim Duncan.
