He still hasn't played in an NBA game. He shot over 40% from three in college. He is 19. In SL his attempted threes are flat. In college he had arc. He is pressing, nervous, and excited. He will settle in and do fine.

He was the best shooter in college last year. He has great form. In college has has made probably the most threes with a defender in his face. Oh and in college he also started out slow.

i am not worried. And I won’t be worried, if his shot isn’t falling before asb. But at some time, he should be hitting something around 38% for an extended period of time…

Folks on here literally speed running with their sht knee jerk reaction on our rookies. Already doubting a rookies talent with only summer league games.
Next season probably gonna hear bust calls at the draft.

Weren’t you one of the dudes (alongside myself and many others) who was preaching patience with Jalen Green and feeling happy about his success towards the end of the season? I thought that perhaps that would extend to other young Rockets players but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ll worry about Jabari’s shot if he’s struggling to shoot by April. Something tells me that won’t be the case

He’s playing C and training harder than ever. Any shooter will tell you that aggression and resistance training disrupts your form a little bit.

That’s what makes him so special. It’s almost unheard of to be the caliber of shooter he is while being an elite all nba type defender. Without the defense you could make a case that he can be a Steph Curry type player, killing people with constant off ball movement and shocking ability on contested 3’s plus attacking the basket and mid range if the defender is playing him too close.

We have that guy but he plays defense like Kawhi. Crazy.

The big lesson from summer league is that he looks comfortable guarding interior players.

His 3 ball looks flat right now compared to his college season. Maybe compensating for the added distance. Needs to just trust his stroke and relax. Not overly concerned now, but if midway through the season he's shooting sub 36% from outside I'll start to have some questions.

Even if he struggled with his shot, saying he's one of those with "some" defense is under selling Bari. He has shown a high motor and intensity and intelligence and vocal leadership/communication to be truly elite defensively. Green and KPj and Sengun are going to command defensive attention which will help Bari's game and his shot early on. Tari will also thrive.

I do agree, however, that his shot release seems much slower and hesitant vs his Auburn highlights. He was just letting it fly all in one fluid motion. In SL, he has a sort of hesitance/slow down as soon as he starts to lift the ball for a shot. Then there's the missing beautiful arch from Auburn as well and i wonder if that hitch/hesitance is contributing to the missing arch as well. Shooters go through slumps...At the same time, you've heard people saying he doesn't miss during practice so it could be in game nerves. Could be shaken confidence, but only offensively because he clearly remains confident defensively. He's most likely just over thinking things. Put himself in a position of doubt after the #1 talk and not out playing Paolo. Everyone already knew Paolo and Keegan were most NBA ready, so up to Bari to get out of his head.

I know he has some range at Auburn well beyond a 3pt line, but i wonder if his true money range is a deep 2, at least until he gets used to an NBA 3pt line?

Not to beat a dead horse, but he’s a fresh 19 years old! He hasn’t even touched his potential abilities yet. He already has most of the tools in place- mentally, physically/athletically, and basketball skillset-wise. Like many have said- once he gets in a real game routine, gets adjusted to playing in the flow of a NBA game with his new teammates, and builds his endurance (48 min vs 40), his offensive game will start to flow better and he’ll gain confidence in what he can do on the floor. This is Summer League. It’s just a warm-up. Not to mention, he’s going to have access to the best trainers and specialists in the world. If he wants to be great, which I think he does, then he is going to have the ability to be just that.

Bast majority of guys take some time to adjust their games to the league, especially the young ones.

He’s young and has a LOT of talent. Give him time. Be patient.

Probably an old head told him how he use to kill in the 80s and is teaching him outdated mechanics.

The reason Smith was such a "safe" pick is that he doesn't have to do anything at all on offense to make a positive impact in a game. He's a stellar defender who can legitimately defend every position.

When it comes to his jumper, I'll worry about it if he's taking 15 shots a game during the season and hitting something like 20% of them. All of the evidence points to him being a stellar shooter especially for his size.

When he has guys like KPJ and Sengun running the offense, with Green and KPJ's gravity creating extra space for him, he'll be rewarded with a TON of open shots which will set him up to look good.

The Summer League situation has him out there with no competent guards, so he's not getting good looks all that often so I'd expect him to shoot a lower percentage than he will likely hit in the regular season.

are you questioning the on-court value of SL?

To me, SL has a tangential effect kinda/sorta college fb team going to a bowl and gaining 2 additional weeks of practice.

Of course there the entire team is amassed, except for the NFL prospects getting ready for their paydays; and in SL a (virtually) expense-free scouting/recruiting op for international teams.

I hope the main guys, KPJ, Green, Alpi, Bari, Eason, JGup, TyTy/Nix, Tate Gusman determine to get together before camp for a week of practice and some partying/bonding.
