They need to turn the corner the day before Jalen signs and extension. Take Turner and finish in 11th in the conference? What for? Most everything the Rockets have of value now will only increase in value as time goes on. The winning move is gather what you can until it's time to extend Jalen. Then, unload everything that does not fit into the equation of a title team for players that do. Use young talent and picks to trade for a disgruntled star... Take Jalen, JSJ, and Tari, throw in another high draft pick, and then trade whatever else for Booker or Adebayo or Lillard or Klay or Brown.... Add in a veteran star. Then re-sign who we need to.
Mark Williams is struggling early on in Summer League. Would y'all be be willing to trade a future 1st for him if the Hornets were down?
Big man usually struggle in summer league. Because they typically not good handling the ball. Those with ball try to showcase themselves. Unlikely to set up for big man.
The next move needs to be dumping Tate and Gordon, but I feel like we'll be stuck with at least one of them. Stone doesn't have a good track record of getting rid of dead weight like that in a timely manner.
Myles Turner is the play for this team, at this time. Turner solves the Rockets issue at the 5 perfectly and is a Texas guy to boot. Given this is the final year of his contract the Rockets would have to have an extension in hand before puling the trigger but I would make the following deal: Houston in: Turner Houston out: Gordon, Martin, Garuba and the 2023 Milwaukee pick Indiana in: Gordon*, Martin, Garuba and the 2023 Milwaukee pick Indiana out: Turner *Indiana then looks to flip EG at the deadline for additional draft compensation. This deal probably requires Turner wanting to come to Houston and posturing that he would sign here as a free agent after next season. For Indiana, getting potentially 2 FRPs (with a Gordon deadline deal) and 2 young, cost controlled rotation players is not a bad haul for a guy you will lose for nothing after the season (especially if the market dries up due to the threat of signing with Houston). After that deal I would look to sign KPJ to a long term, team friendly deal with some team options. I am a KPJ believer but want the team to have an out. I worry that a year where he puts up 20/6/6 on efficient shooting makes him a very expensive but necessary re-sign next summer. KPJ/Tyty or Nix Green/JC Eason/Tate Smith/Eason Turner/Sengun Adding an additional top 10 pick from the loaded 2023 draft and another free agent to that with an eye towards the play in next season would be my plan.
If they can get Ayton for Turner then they go that way. My angle is simply that Turner is a free agent after next season. If he were to make overtures that he might sign with Houston as a free agent then I think most teams would hesitate giving up value for a rental. IF Turner wants Houston (or just wants that Texas tax rate) then the Rockets would be in good position to get him for pennies on the dollar.
The Milwaukee 2023 1st round plus KJ Martin. I don't see that happening though. Guards usually dominate summer league.
We need a SF who can play well in transition and in the half court on both ends of the floor, with good passing ability.
Sengun is and should be the starter at center. Neither Turner or Williams is arguably better than him. Turner is also injury prone and going into a contract year where he’s going to make way more than he’s worth.
