I think that's pretty clear. Most players can't be the face of a contending franchise, and even the ones that can still need help to get anywhere.

If I'm the Knicks, I would be pushing hard to package these picks for Durant rather than Mitchell. Not that Durant would even want to play for the Knicks. But if you are going to cash in all of your chips, do it for something special. I do not see a future where a Brunson and Mitchell backcourt will lead to the promise land.

Some Insiders Believe Donovan Mitchell To Knicks 'An Inevitability'

The New York Knicks have been tied to a trade for Donovan Mitchell for multiple years and the Utah Jazz now appear set to put him on the market.

"The New York Knicks have eight tradable first round picks and a need and a desire for a star player like Donovan Mitchell, who is from the New York area," said Brian Windhorst. "Some people believe this is an inevitability. It's just a matter of what price can be negotiated. Other teams are interested in Mitchell and it can go in a different direction. They can keep Mitchell, or at least posture they're going to keep Mitchell. But I think we're going to hear a lot about Mitchell and the New York Knicks in the coming days."

Mitchell has been an All-Star in each of the past three seasons and can't become a free agent before 2025.

Mitchell is represented by Ty Sullivan and Austin Brown of CAA, the agency formerly headed by Leon Rose.

 

Mitchell isn't a franchise player for a title contender, but New York is just hungry for a bankable star.

Imagine Brunson leaving DAL purely because he didn't want to be second banana to Luka...only to be second banana to Mitchell.

Knicks will then have leveraged most of their future picks and a bunch of cap space on its starting backcourt - neither of whom can defend.

 

Luka is the first banana, second banana, and third banana, he's the bunch of bananas.

 

Can't wait for the next Knicks are relevant again theatrics... Then they follow up with 30 win seasons... lol
