ESPN RADIO - Francis' Answer to why they couldn't run fast Breaks

    Okay i was listening to 610 and they had a snippet from Francis talking about the Fast break and running.

    He said that they were not used running fast breaks becuase they were always practicing half court sets in practice and never had to practice the fast break where they had to run.

    Saying that since he was not able to practice it in the gym when it came to game time and they had to run they weren't able to execute.

    I can't buy all of that becuase, fast breaks are not that hard to run and people with little amount of basketball knowledge can run a fast break and pass to the open man.

    thats what he said in the Press conference but it's all over, we should be able to run the break now

    They weren't a running team, their best finisher was Steve Francis, and their next best finisher was Yao and we all know he can't run that fast.

    Still when you are running a fast break with Mobley and jim Jackon and you have a 2-1 or a 3-1 where Francis decides to go up crazy and try and draw a foul instead of passing off for the easy bucket is not smart, and that is what Francis used to do.

    There are 2 ways to run an effective break: pass ahead to guys correctly filling ther lanes, or have a playmaker who can push. We didn;t have the latter, and aside from the occassional homerun, wouldn't do the former. End of story.

    I'd pay attention to that if Stevie had been able to run the fast break for four years under Rudy.

    Exactly. Regardless of how many more points we scored with Rudy, Steve still couldn't run the break well.

    No disrespect to Stevie because I really like him, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Steve turning the ball over something like 15 times per game contributed to killing the fastbreak.

    Yeah, but he was trying REALLY HARD when he turned it over those 15 times, so it was okay. :D
