If I'm reading this right, I think he's reporting Houston just wanted to avoid Chet because of lack of time to go through his medical information, which is why when they knew ORL is taking Paolo they wanted to trade up because they didn't want ORL and OKC picking Paolo and Jabari. This reporting is still confusing because even if they thought ORL is taking Jabari at #1, wasn't there a chance OKC would take Paolo at #2? Or they were sure that's not gonna happen? If they were sure, why try to trade up to avoid Chet? I sense inconsistency
It sounds like the Rockets were pretty sure OKC's top choice was either Holmgren or Smith, and not Banchero. And when they heard that Orlando could take Banchero, the Rockets were worried that they would be left to choose Holmgren, whose medical info was a mystery, for the third pick. In this scenario, the Rockets could've had either Banchero or Smith as their top choice, though they did say afterwards it was Jabari. But who knows, Orlando might have been uncertain about the Rockets' top choice, as well, so they didn't want to risk trading down.
It was a foregone conclusion in the media and hype circles that Orlando was happy with Jabari as their #1 pick. That franchise had a freaking press conference about his workout and how positive everyone was. Paolo and Houston had some mutual interest and Chets camp did everything they could to land in OKC. At the 11th hour when the news broke that Orlando was going to go Paolo that must have rattled Stone. Caught him and EVERYONE off-guard. Magic didnt take long at all to make the pick so a true trade scenario was probably never in the cards, but I agree it was all centered around Paolo being the #1 pick all along and Stone crossing his fingers that OKC didnt take Jabari. I think it was Paolo/Jabari for Stone so it was still a win for everyone. If OKC takes Jabari at 2 I can see Houston going Ivey over Chet. edit: Not to be lost in the discussion is that Paolo's camp turned down ORL several times for a workout request.
Tim McMahon gotta hit that article and word quota for his overlords at ESPN AND promote the game tonight!?!? Barkely was right, don't ever go work for ESPN LOL!
See... for all yer b****in and moaning yesterday... turns out YOU were the guy that didnt have enough info to make the correct decision (at least in the eyes of Stone, etc,,,) I oughta go pull all yer quotes and slap em right next to this report - to further illuminate that YOU WERE TALKING OUT YER BUTT - and NOW dont have the common civility to admit that YOU WERE WRONG! Evidently, Stone and the boys didnt care about "What you know about Chet stuffing the stat sheet and winning...blah blah blah" and then when faced with something contrary to what you've been running yer mouth about - yer gonna play it off as some deficiency on my part for calling you out!?!? YOU ARE A PIECE OF WORK, MY FRIEND! smdh...
because he was never gonna go past the 2nd pick Presti was laser focused on Chet from day 1 while Orlando wanted to play their little games
well look at you all worked up this fine morning. pull up whatever you want. it's hilarious that you think this meaningless article means anything related to yesterday I couldn't careless what they care about. As if every single decision they make is right lmao what you're crying about now is absolutely hiliarious Chet was literally never going pass 2 and you're out here trying to play the i told you so role when the rockets pick is 3. but but but Stone and the boys. LMFAO
this whole draft process was stupid Rockets never even met with Jabari or Chet, only Paolo Orlando did their whole Jabari charade let’s just get to the games
Didn't we get word from a reputable poster that the Rockets would trade back if chet fell? This matches that, it seems they did not like Chet because of some medical scare. Maybe it was simply because Chet and his team didn't send them the information and so they were rightfully suspicious about it. Who knows if their concern here was valid or not. It is interesting though, seems like Chet was not the 3rd player on the board. I guess time will tell if they were right but they didn't pass on him so it doesn't really matter in the end.
Just me maybe, but I think the "medical records" is a cover for them just not wanting him. Chet is frail. Even if his medical records are great, there's not telling if he'll hold up. The Rockets and others in the league are right to be skeptical of Chet's durability.
Chet was always going to OKC (unless Orlando took him obviously) . He admitted that so he wasn't in play for us. I do think it was obvious that Smith thought he was going to Orlando and Banchero here. Would have been happy with any outcome but we got our best fit.
We dont need no stinkin medical reports... we got YOLO! Apparently the all mighty all knowing YOLO knows what is the better play - beyond Stone and the rest of our team brain trust...
