I just can't imagine what the Astros see in Odorizzi. He is appropriately named for sure. He stinks. They are the experts, they must see something. Maybe he is a diamond in the rough, a developing star, etc. I just don't see it.
When they signed him we had major pitching depth issues. Coming into this season we had LMJ out, 800 year old Verlander, Framber coming off a weird postseason and unproven as a full time guy Javier. A whole lot has gone right, and now we don't really need him. Competent starting is something you would much rather have too much of than not enough of. He's a functional MLB starter making 8 million, just letting collect dust is a waste. At the least we want to prove his trade value to a team that may want to trade for him, plenty of lesser teams would like a guy like Odorizzi. We've got a massive cushion so him possibly costing us a few games isn't the end of the world.

If he was better than Siri, he would not have been platooning. Um, he would have 17-18 Home runs...LOL. That is more than Tucker and Altuve right now.

I don't think 4th outfielder is what he has in mind and why he's peeved. But he could make a case he should start against left handed pitchers [#2 OPS] on the team against left handers.
Beyond that, we're also trying to rest starters so they don't get worn out by the World Series. You want to get these guys going deep in games and throwing 100+ pitches so they can do it in the playoffs, but you don't want to burn out their arms. So a 6-man rotation is perfect for a while.

Dusty doesn't want Matijevic on this team, 4 starts in 3 weeks (needed Yordan, Brantley and Pena hurt at the same time to get one of them). Brantley is on the DL, and he still gets no run. Much like Jake Meyers last season after the Straw trade, Dusty will just mothball a player if he didn't want him. Front office tried to drop Chaz and Siri just to guarantee Dusty plays him this season.
Since we're living in 1988 and pretending it's 1980... I'd absolutely trade McCormick and Siri for Mike Schmidt.
