why was this even a consideration? why would Ewing walk away from Yao to coach the Nets big men (Jason Collins et al)?
Why would he want to go anywhere where he actually has to do work when he can stay in Houston and do absolutely nothing like he did last year? Ewing is going to ride on this train as long as he can.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/207485p-178960c.html He can still become a Knick, but yes the New Jersey job has been turned down.
It's too bad we couldn't get Elie over here. It's more than an attractive job and the more former Rockets you can get the better. As far as big man coach, I like Ewing just fine. He's still young enough to not be incoherent like some older players. He's just a couple years removed from his playing career so he's still got all the tricks about the modern game in his head. I dunno if I'd trust Kareem or Moses to do a better job. Hakeem? I'd never expect that except for him like attending a Rockets practice some days to help Yao, but even that would be inconsistant with Olajuwon so far..
Because Ewing is nothing but a mascot and doesn't really do much to help Yao. He's a waste but because he helped JVG get his first coaching job in NY, JVG is returning the favor by making him an "assistant". Do you really think he's teaching him anything?
But it's a fact that Ewing was an elite bigman in his years in the league. I'd think that during practices, he'd at least get bored and just give Yao advice. He can't be doing nothing.
You can all believe that Ewing sits at practice and teaches Yao his tricks of the trade. My contact says otherwise.
I seriously wonder if Ewing hadn't played for a team we oh, say beat in the finals, if maybe we wouldn't be so hard on him. Who would seriously be better, especially since he's comfortable around JVG and the old staff. I seriously don't trust Kareem or Moses Malone to do a more effective job considering the situation.
