Keep Rich Paul away from our players as much as possible. He is single-handedly destroying cap sheet all over the league. I’m all about players getting maximum payout for themselves but not at the expense of my team. if that means we have to let some of young players go because of a potential overpay. Players like KPJ aren’t worth $200 mil
If KPJ averages 20-7-4 this year, those are the numbers he will be looking at, and some other team will be willing to pay it. If you believe KPJ is committed - then you try to lock him up now, to a more reasonable deal, the risk of letting the market decide is people are willing to OVERPAY to steal them.....like Dallas did with Parsons and we did with Lin. Someone will throw HUGE money at him and we will lose him for nothing. DD
Then let him walk if someone overpays, match if it’s a fair deal. RFA will be a good test of his maturity.
I expect KPJ to have a big year, like really big!! He’s gonna be pricey for sure. I think he’ll get a Brunson type deal. As long as his head is on straight, he’ll be worth every penny.
I don’t care if he has a big year on the worst team in the league. Plenty of players have produced on garbage teams and I’m still not sold he’s fixed his maturity issues. My point isn’t really about KPJ but about overpaying players with low ceilings.
U mean Darius Garland? He was an All-Star, is 1 of the league’s best playmakers, has shown noticeable improvement each year, and helped lead an overachieving Cavs team to the verge of being a playoff team. KPJr currently can’t even hold his jockstrap Cavs can’t afford to lose him
Well we have next season to find out. You can say whatever you want about KPJ, but please don’t say his ceiling low bc that’s just false lol. The only reason we’re giving a chance and iced Wall is bc his ceiling is extremely high.
Poor choice of words, I don't believe it is overpay if that is what the market determines his price to be, others may think it is an overpay for him - which is sort of the point. If you believe he will help your team, and you believe he has all star potential - then you try to lock him up now and put in protections at a reasonable rate. If you are still on the fence about his attitude it is ok to ride it out and see what happens, but you need to prepare for the fact that if he has it figured out, and has a major year his value is going to sky rocket. Look at all these teams starting to tank, not all of them are going to make it, and they will be looking for players like KPJ (assuming he has a good year) to make a large offer to and the Rockets will have to decide to match or let him walk. IMHO, Stone should be trying to lock him up for 3-4 years now, with protections for any issues. DD
How are they different from other agents if the objective of agents is to maximize salary payout for the players? How is David Faulk or Mark Bartelstein? Would you say the same if it were excel sports management in the news all the time instead of Klutch?
you dont create an adversarial situation by banning someone... you just factor in who you're dealing with as you decide who you wish to pursue... Like I told my wife, who runs her own firm... she complains about working with certain groups or architects... I tell her, you just factor that in to your proposal... figure it as a 10-25% pain in the butt fee... lol! Same thing with our offers... if the agent is a pain to deal with - make your offer with regards to the whole package... Seeing as we have no Klutch player - maybe we already are... lol
So we should ban an agent who doesn’t represent anyone on the team because another player who is on the team might have such a good year that a team will pay him more than the maximum salary allows? makes sense.
