Snell had ONE great year. He had two OK years. Three bad years. And he sucks this year. He has NO VALUE to the Astros. It's a straight Payroll relief for Prospects. Perhaps add Luis Garcia to relieve Luis Garcia. He is having a good season.
Just Saying its all about perspective when you do trades like this you wanna upgrade across the board with out really hurting yourself.
According to Fangraphs Prospect Value, Hassell and Capusano would be worth $46M each, and Merrill would be worth $26M. That totals $118M in prospect value. The Padres would have to be absolutely stupid to make that trade
Martin Perez seems to have found something this season. He is on a $4M one year deal. This is the guy out of the ones I’ve seen mentioned that intrigues me the most. Get him on the Astros program. He’s a lefty too, which provides balance to the rotation.
So are you putting him in the pen? If not, which of the outstanding Astro starters are you demoting so you can take a look at Snell?
Probably not but any chance they'll look at Snell as a relief pitcher and not a starter? Upgrade on Taylor as the lefty reliever? And if players struggle/get hurt, they can throw him into the rotation? He has another year? Maybe if Odorizzi leaves, he can be number 5 pitcher.
I think if we have a chance to upgrade CF or 1B, we should. If we can add another potential dominant pen arm, we should some of the posts here asking for major changes to the roster are laughable though This team as currently constructed might be better than all of them other than 19
I'm actually sold on Meyers being our everyday CFer. And Yuli is having a down year but an upgrade over him? That's weird to say
I would be willing to trade Luis Garcia for Bryan Reynolds. We have depth in the rotation. Pittsburgh could see Garcia as a young controllable arm as they get closer to the end of their rebuild. In the playoffs you only need 4 starters. JV, Valdez, and Javier are 3 of them. The last spot can go to whichever of Lance/Jake/Urquidy is the hottest hand. Brandon Bielak can be the emergency AAAA guy if we need one late in the regular season.
@Nook has legit sources and I appreciate you sharing what you’ve heard. Kicking the tires on Snell tells me that they are likely considering trading one of our young arms for a bat. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I’d only trade Garcia or Javier for an all star caliber position player with multiple years of control.
I’m still wanting Sal Perez and Benitendi from KC. move tuck to cf. and perez is a 2-way catcher. Might cost a lot but fits needs. Other than that just a straight up CF, a 1B and another reliever. Would love pressly as the setup man again. He’s good, but it just feels like there is always a runner on base with him.
Perez just had thumb surgery and is out for "an extended period of time" https://www.mlb.com/news/salvador-perez-left-thumb-surgery I don't really want him, but yea I would start with Snell in the pen for this season if they did get him. The market for a lefty reliever (especially a rental) is pretty weak. Chafin, Hand (if the Phillies sell), and then a bunch of meh unless you want to spend bigger to get someone with multiple years of control like Soto or Mantiply
If you grab Snell why Not take a look at McCullers in the Pen for alittle while not to rush him back so fast?
