No team will give Tate that contract.

We still have many talent young players need Tate’s playing time.

On this hypothetical 3/33m contract would something like...

    22-23: $16m
    23-24: $11m
    24-25: $6m

    ...be legal?
The change per year would be the same.

Or an 11m, 8m, 5m split which would be 3/$24m total?

    thnx in advance!

I like Tate, but some of you are willing to throw way too much money at him. 2-3m/yr max. He’s short, and easily replaceable.

Bobby, this is objectively false, what Rockets games are you watching? I agree with many of your takes and think you get unfairly blasted for some of your opinions, but this I cannot abide.

Crafty inside finishing and using patience and footwork to create a shot down low (often tightly guarded against much bigger guys), which btw he usually makes, is literally one of the strongest parts of his game and crazy impressive for his size. Feel free to not like him for the Rockets, question the fit or the ceiling or the measurables, lament the crappy jump shooting, etc, all you want…but this take? Come on man.

Tate is on my top list that will barricade our young players development. 1st is Wood, 2nd is Tate.

I will concur with this. I don't love Tate but I always remember Marveling about his efficiency near the rim. For being so short he does convert at a high percentage.

However everything else on offense is trash. And despite the efficiency in finishing, I hate whem he isolates.

Agreed. Tate is a great glue guy. All these kids need a solid role model while they toughen up and learn to play as a team.

On the other hand, Christian Wood was an anti-glue guy (a “solvent”?)

According to Stats online. Tate had 488 plays where he got the rebound and ran down the court without scoring or passing the ball.

Aside from draft, not many good moves from Stone. This is another bad move.

it's because they have a right to match this year and the $$ available are much smaller than next year. so the matching right is much more valuable this year than next. mathematically, the bet is that the $$ hit they will take on the 2022-23 season is less than the $$ that they will save in the remainder of the contract by exercising the matching rights this year rather than next.

so it's a calculated risk, and i don't really see any reason to think the FO is misreading the market.
