Interesting. Let's see what happens. Maybe a SnT or extension.

Mostly agree. However mayne what he brings overall(leadership, more experience, effort) are weighed a bit heavier for this next phase of rebuild. Im fine with 3 years 30 million with it being a team option on the 3rd year.

I'd prefer to have Martin Jr. and Eason at SF.

This gives us some flexibility I didn't think we'd have. If Tate wants to go elsewhere, now we can get something back we value directly. Of course this also gives us the ability to sign him long term to a market level deal. Freedom for everyone not named KJ!

This should be interesting. If you love someone, set them free, if they sign a long term deal with you, love them forever.

What is the maximum salary number we could frontload a contract for Tate with?

Considering we have one more year of tanking left, it would benefit us greatly in our "trying to win" years if we could sign him to say a 3/33 contract but frontload the contract as much as possible ($20m?) for 2022-2023.

    22-23: $20m
    23-24: $6.5m
    24-25: $6.5m

Something along the lines of that structure would be very beneficial to us going forward

If they just have to keep him, I like this deal. In no way should Tate's contract keep the team from a being able to sign a premium fa.

I read this on twitter a while ago before J.R. posted it here, so the publication of the news item saying the Rockets have declined Tate's player option has come as a big surprise to me.

Maybe a sign and trade for a center?

    Keeping the MLE.

In some ways, the right glue guy on a team of teenagers might be more important than a glue guy on a contender. Especially in real life with guys like KPJ. If it was a video game, sure, let his ass go and play the guys with the most potential.

Tate means a lot to all of these guys. He helps the coaches coach and the players play. And he isn't a bad player himself.

If they use the NT-MLE on Tate, they won't have room to use part of it on a center like IH.
I guess Stone has settled on Sengun and Garuba. Mitchell Robinson and Nic Claxton are leaning towards signing new contracts with the Nets and the Knicks respectively.

PS: I think the NT-MLE won't be touched if Tate agrees to a contract with his Early Bird rights.

Please clarify this matter to me.
