I am happy we took Green. Imagine everything happened the same way except we had Mobley and Smith instead of Green and Smith. Stone knew getting an electric guard first was more important. Talented bigs were just a year away.
I prefer Green + Jabari but I also would find Mobley and Jabari interesting. But what's done is done, Houston has a bright future and a great foundation.
Actually Green-Smith-Sengun vs Mobley and ? (would the record be so bad w/Mobley to get Jabari?) Because I don't think the Rockets move up to get Sengun if the Rockets had drafted Mobley at #2.
First - I'm very happy to have Green, and I am hopeful and optimistic he will become a star. That said, I think Mobley's skillset and potential at his size makes him a more unique prospect than an uber athletic 6'4" guard. Green may very well have a significantly better career (and I'm certainly rooting for that now) and render the comparison moot, but if you think about the last decade plus of prospects, imo it's objectively harder to find Mobley's archetype in drafts than it is to find Green's archetype. I don't think it's a stretch to say the majority of franchises picking a core player in a 'fantasy draft' would take Mobley over Green today.
I think we definitely would have been bad enough to get Jabari, but I agree we wouldn't have traded up to get Sengun...and I irrationally love Sengun more than any other player in the whole world.
Not sure... Rockets 20 wins Magic 22 wins Pistons 23 wins Minus Sengun but add Mobley, idk....Mobley was favorite for Rookie of the Year most of the season until Scottie Barnes took it from him like an MMA fighter taking candy from a baby with no arms.
