I must say... I actually really like that idea. As far as I can tell, Taylor for Daniels and any one of those centers (James, Booth, or Potapenko) works salary-wise. They would probably want us to take Booth, because he has 3 years left while the others only have 1. Plus, they just drafted Robert Swift, ANOTHER potential center. Still don't think Seattle does that deal, but with Ridnour, Allen, and Murray in the backcourt, it's not the most far-fetched idea ever. PG: Daniels, Lue SG: McGrady, Gaines SF: Jackson, Nachbar, Griffin PF: Howard, Spoon C: Yao, Booth And we would still have the MLE & the TE to mess with.... if only Seattle would do this...
Any of these guys. Arroyo is intriguing. He's young, smart and can shoot. Derrick Fisher - Brent Barry - Eric Snow - Carlos Arroyo - Troy Hudson -
My vote still goes for Speedy Claxton after what he showed here in SA. Solid player on both ends. Not spectacular, but can distribute, score some, and keep up with the quicker PG's throughout the league.
Whatever hapened witht he Ollie - Pike trade? i thought that was a done deal, but everyone is talking about looking for another PG. If we have Ollie and Lue already, then something has to change.
Getting Fisher would save JVG a lot of headaches i am sure. I hope they get Brent Barry also as back up to McGrady. Rox needs depth.
Totally agree. To be honest, I don't really get all the Brent Barry hype. He's a good offensive player but he gives you almost nothing on the defensive end. We need a PG who can stay in front of his man and keep him from driving to the hole and drawing fouls from Yao. Remember Yao won't have Cato and his 6 extra fouls next year. If Yao has to constantly sit down with 2 fouls in the first quarter, our whole offensive game plan goes down the tubes. Snow is a JVG type player. I think he's a perfect fit.
Barry and Snow are too old to be part of this developing young team. I would like Hudson or Hinrich but if we have to have a mature PG then my instincts say Fisher, has experience and would follow JVG to the letter. [pass Yao the ball]
The Daniels I referred to earlier was Marquis Daniels. 6'6" 200. 23 years old, 49% FG 31% 3s 2.5 A/TO 19MPG, 8.5PPG, 2.1APG, .95SPG (not bad at all based on minutes). (16ppg-6rpg-3apg--impressive-- in the playoffs). The problem is you don't know what you are going to get in terms of helping you run a team. But for the 1.6 mil exemption, worth considering. I am pretty sure Marquis and Arroyo are UnRestricted FAs. I trust PB's and realgm more than other sites. Also, a point about Alston, more than half his shots taken were 3s, and he hit a very solid 37%, so his efficiency isn't bad. Look at points per shot: Barry (1.49) and AD (1.43) are off the charts for PGs, but one could argue they play more like SGs anyway. Clustered next are Snow (1.18), Arroyo (1.17), Marq D (1.16), Lue (1.12), and Alston (1.10). Fish and AW stunk it up last year (1.01 & 1.00), but you could argue that was an aberration, the year before they were an OK 1.11 and 1.13 respectively. While being at least adequate in overall shooting/PPS is important, to me it is tied with being able to play good man defense as the 2nd most important factors we are looking for in a PG--and both are well behind in importance to being a disciplined floor leader who sets up their teammates. I didn't realize Alston was 6'2", I knew he is quick and a decent defender, but I thought he was a 6 foot or under like Lue and dismissed him too soon as not bringing a different dimension than Lue. I would be comfortable with either him or Arroyo fighting it out with Lue for the PG minutes. Damon Jones 6'3" 185, soon to be 28, also had a good year as a back-up PG (OK shooting, but almost 6 APG and whopping 4.6 A/TO ratio). But he didn't make it as a Rocket and I thought the knock on him was he shoots too much (but look at those assist numbers?), do you think he actually does have an NBA point guard game or was last year was a fluke?
Damon Jones signed as FA by maybe a dozen nba teams, finally "got it" in the bucks last season.2nd in ast/to ratio, 4th in assists per 48 minutes, .366 career 3P% his per game stats in 5 post season games: 28.8 MIN, .529 FG%, .475 3P%, 10 PTS, 7.4 AST, 4.0 REB, 1.8 TO bucks GM larry harris said:"The way we look at it(PG) is we believe that T.J. is going to come back healthy. That¡¯s the way we have to look at it. He believes that and his doctors believe that. Having said that, we're going into free agency looking for a back-up point guard that if something were to happen, has the ability to start as well." so, damon jones not gonna get hugh pay check from the bucks
Yes Daniels is unrestricted cause he was signed as a free agent by the mavericks. he will be available but i don't know if JVG thinks he will fit in his system. I liked his no fear type of play and i wouldn't mind having him in a rockets uniform. I think that Dallas will go ahead and resign him becuase they were the team that let him start but then again, lets see how much money other teams are going to give him.
Snow, on the other hand, is a career 20% 3-point shooter. That's 1 out of every 5 shots. I like the rest of his game, but we're going to need a PG who can keep defenses honest. Fisher's not a GREAT 3-point shooter, but he's a clutch one. His playoff average is .431. And that's no fluke -- he's been in 117 playoff games. Sounds to me like this is guy we want running our team.
Snow's my first pick, but Fisher would be a great (and easier to obtain) option for JVG. What could we do to get Snow?
You guys make a great case for Seattle being a logical trading partner. Seattle has a bunch of centers who should be backups, and a whole slew of guards. Houston can offer a couple post scorers in Howard and Taylor. If we could even get Ridnour or Murray instead of Daniels, along with Potapenko or James for Taylor we could fill some holes. I don't know that we could get Daniels, but I was impressed with Ridnour in college and what little I saw him play with Seattle, and Murray had a spectacular start to his season. If we could unload Howard or Taylor, I think this would be a reasonable trade. Hey, at least I'm not proposing Taylor for Rashard.
Antonio Daniels is becoming my favourite. You need size to pass the ball into the post. Daniels has played in San Antonio with Tim Duncan and has a ring, so that's good experience for him. Great FG% throughout his career only dipping below 44% once in his 7-year career. Asst/to ratio very very good. He also has the type of frame that would be very troublesome for other teams - if he starts playing JVG type defense, he could be a very good defender. Again, size is important. He gets to the rim fairly well, and is decent from 3-pt range. Would love to get Booth for Howard, and Daniels for part of the TE.
