Our worst starter just shut down the best offense in baseball with 7 innings of 1 hit and 1 run baseball. No, a team going for a championship doesn't bench that guy for a rookie just because we gotta see what we have. Astros won't be going after a starter at the deadline barring a significant injury.
I am not speaking of benching anyone, but the Astros are in a position to go to a 6 man rotation, skipping some starters in favor of Verlander getting to pitch more. They have two guys with TOR stuff. Verlander and Framber. Framber is a mental case imo who I don't think you can count on to be consistent in the playoffs like Verlander and Cole were in 19'. See if you have something in Brown whether that be bullpen or the starting rotation. This Astros team has a need at TOR and at CF unless Jake Meyers proves otherwise.
Sorry, but you are going to have to sweat through multiple Framber playoff starts. Like I said before, I am against Brown being in the bullpen because I want him stretched out incase of injuries. Also, Dusty won't pitch Abreu in key situations. You think he is trusting a rookie? No chance. Brown would be buried in this bullpen and MIGHT get in a game once a week on mop up duty. They might go to a 6 man rotation after the all-star break when they have a lot of game in a row without days off. The 6th man will be Odorizzi who will be making his 2nd rehab start this week and probably gets activated next week.
Not a rookie...he was up in 2020 and 2021 and has over a year of service time because of the shortened season
Speaks more to the shape of how the bullpen was back then. Andre Scrubb, Josh James, Paredes all pitching high leverage innings… with a touch of Brooks Raley and Blake Taylor. None of those guys would be pitching high leverage on this year’s team. Hunter Brown figures to be a big part of this team… but will only be pitching on the current roster out of necessity, not out of luxury.
Dusty just can’t resist splitting up Alvarez/Tucker… but at least he’s doing it by moving them up, not down.
It's minor but Dusty batting Chas ahead of Meyers might be some passive aggressiveness to Click. Part of Click's thought on sending down Chas could have been to take away the option of Dusty taking at bats away from Meyers. If Meyers is the better player then why is he behind Chas who would be in Sugar Land if not for an injury.
Nice to see Pena move up in the lineup. Just sucks it had to come with the cost of missing Uncle Mike.
Maybe Jake gives Chas a bit of protection? Not likely since Jake hasn't really mashed and just got activated but it's all I got. Who is this Bergman you speak of? Seriously though if Dusty is going to separate Yordan and Tucker ( and we can't stop him ko matter how much we beg) Bregman is the only reasonable choice. I hope that Chas and J.J. platoon while Brantley is out: Chas in LF vs LHP and J.J. at DH vs RHP.
What is even the point of Matijevic if he's not gonna start against a righty with a ground ball pitcher going.
Why not just move Bregman to 2nd in the order? Seems like Dusty trying to be cute again. I know Pena has been pretty good with the bat but why is he a better option than Bregman in that spot. Bregman makes better contact and gets on base more right? edit: I do see that Pena has a better OPS.
