The 13 man pitching squad is about to get pretty crowded STARTERS 1. R VERLANDER, Justin 2. L VALDEZ, Framber 3. R McCULLERS, Jr., Lance 4. R JAVIER, Cristian 5. R ODORIZZI, Jake 6. R GARCIA, Luis 7. R URQUIDY, Josē CLOSER 1. R PRESSLY, Ryan RELIEVERS 2. R STANEK, Ryne 3. R NERIS, Hëctor 4. R MONTERO, Rafael 5. R MATON, Phil 6. R ABREU, Bryan 7. R MARTINEZ, Seth 8. L BIELAK, Brandon 9. L TAYLOR, Blake 10. L MUSHINSKI, Parker Each can make a good case they deserve a place on the roster. But the most obvious candidates are playing well in limited opportunities or have special stuff. Other than injuries trimming the roster, this will not be easy. 17 pitchers - 13 spots. And this doesn't include those in the minors who deserve a call up.
Really? Overreact much? The season is 162 games and all pitchers have a stinker once in a while. This bullpen as constructed is nasty and statistically #1 in baseball. No way the team should pay what it would cost to get a guy good enough to drop the current guys down a notch. Maybe just a better lefty. But I must say Stanek is my choice as closer with Montero 2nd.
Hopefully the catcher of the future. I dont trust Abreau/Neris in the playoffs and I cant give you a reason for this feeling. I would offer Abreau for Contreras and let Contreras split time between C, 1B. Getting Castro off of the roster would make me very happy.
I agree completely, but there's not enough of a sample size to say he can't still do that. They haven't had to try it, and that was the first completely no excuses fail on his part this season IMO.
Pleasantly surprised Meyers is given the starting job outright and both Chas and Siri were optioned. They weren't hitting enough, and I think JJ Matijevic deserves a shot. Looking forward to this lineup: 1. Altuve 2B 2. Brantley LF 3. Bregman 3B 4. Alvarez DH 5. Tucker RF 6. Pena SS 7. Matijevic 1B 8. Meyers CF 9. Maldonado C
The stat people apparently persuaded Dusty to look at the splits. This is an excellent line up against lefties. Even Bregman has more success lifetime than this year. L/R/S PLAYER lefty OPS R ALTUVE, Jose 925 L BRANTLEY, Michael 760 R BREGMAN, Alex 544 L TUCKER, Kyle 909 R GURRIEL, Yuli 663 R PEÑA, Jeremy 843 R DUBÔN, Mauricio 923 R MEYERS, Jake 899 R MALDONADO, Martin 550 I love seeing Jake and Jeremy in the lineup. If you are going to give Alvarez a rest, THIS is a good game to do it. note - 2022 except for Meyers 2021.
Yeah. McCormick was replacement level and Siri is a Jake Marisnick level player. Meyers is too good a defensive player for Siri to be a good fit for the Astros. But trade material?
IMO this is a great problem to have. If I'm Click I'm working the phones like crazy dangling some of our pitchers and prospects to see what we can get. I think if we can get one of Bell or Mancini you gotta do it. We need all the hitting we can to mask over Maldonado/Siri/Mccormick/Meyers at the plate. If we can swing a trade for a hitter we pretty much will have no holes going into the postseason. Fun times ahead.
Agree we could use one more good bat No way I would trade one of our MLB starters though, if that’s what you mean
Today would have been an interesting time to get Abreu some work. Overtaxed closer/setup men. Abreu hasn't thrown in 5 days. Instead we go with Maton.
And waste a great start by Urquidy in the process. Dusty wearing out the BP in the middle of the year. A yearly occurrence. There's a reason he's never won a championship in 30 years.
Does anyone think dusty is a decent manager? Serious question. We have disparate views on lots of stuff here, but aren’t we all unified in thinking dusty sucks?
