Jerami Grant is preferred by all everywhere over ‘our’ Mr Wood. The return seems to add perspective to the return received from the Cubes.

Like Wood, Grant was an expiring contract and expected to get a bigger next contract.

The Pistons open up 40+million cap space by not taking back salaries matching Grant's...

They might offer max for Ayton or Bridges (their real targets, I guess)

They did not open up cap space. Portland is a team operating over the cap. They do not have max to offer

Surprisingly poor returns for Grant, it looks like the Pistons are just gambling on the Bucks struggling in 3 years time.

They clearly already found a player that they can build around (Cunningham), not sure why they aren't getting picks now so they can begin finding other players that they can develop along with Cunningham.

I don't think it's a poor return - there were almost no teams who 1) wanted Grant and 2) could send out expirings and draft picks for him. I think its pretty in-line with the Wood deal.

There's just not a ton of teams with cap room, picks, and need to win next season - you're talking what, Dallas (who took Wood) Portland, who else?

if that's all J.Grant can get (a protected 25' FRP from the Bucks, Two SRP (25'/26'), and a 22' SRP swap 46-36), I want to apologize to Rafael for being disrespectful toward the CWood trade:oops:

maybe we should try offer EG/Tate + 3 SRP for OG Anunoby, you never know:D

Detroit can now offer a max offer is what he meant.

Portland used their very large tpe from mccollum trade so they didn't send any salary back.

Detroit now has max cap space to try and steal a high end free agent.

Very possible. They're going to spend like CLE last year. Between the two, I think they have a better shot at Ayton (disgruntled) vs Bridges, (both Miles and Hornets on good terms; just a matter of nailing down the new salary).

They were offered multiple first round picks for Grant last season.

Wood never came close to the offers that Grant received.

I think so too (DET spending this year). Seems like they won't be joining the "Wembanyama Sweepstakes" ???:D
Landing Ayton(agreed, most likely than Bridges) + Ivey/Murray + Cade ---> should be a really solid young core, might be in the play-ins 2023

"Last season"? C'mon man, that tweet is dated March 2021!

Of course his valuation is considerably different in June of 2022. I mean, i don't think Boston, the team that allegedly made that offer, is a feasible target any more, given the subsequent 1.5 seasons, do you?

I'm highlighting the fact that Grant's potential market value, only a year ago, was multiple FRP. Christian Wood never came close to the offers that Pistons received for Grant. Despite Grant being clearly a better player, Wood still ultimately fetched a better return than Grant.

He is a barely-double-digit rebounder on the single worst rebounding team in the NBA... Somebody had to get some boards for us. Dude doesn't box out or hustle or anything. Again, empty stats. That's not to say he's completely useless or unskilled, but I don't think he was ever going to earn us much more than we got given the situation.

Wood ended up actually being worth three picks after all.

I was happy with the return for Wood when it was just the 26th pick. I'm a lot happier now. So many mocks had us taking TyTy with the #17 pick for the last two months. We got him and two future second rounders for Christian Wood? I am loving that.
