A big man who should be starting 4 and can be backup 5. Howard and Taylor are not good choice. Who should we try to get? We have too many stupid contracts for 4's.
Howard and Taylor will be more than servicable at the 4 until their contracts expire. Our bigger areas of need are STARTING point and back-up center to spell Yao when he needs a breather or gets in foul trouble. Dear Santa: Starting Point Guard - a floor general and leader. I mature player but not necessarily old. One who handles the ball compatently limits his mistakes and turnovers, and can hit the open jumper. Passing ability must be very solid. We need someone who can run an offense, set teammates up and distibute the ball accurately. Back-Up Center - a large body; developmental players need not apply. This guy must have strength to hold position in the paint and rebounding ability. That's basically all I ask for. One who can come in for Yao and play solid D, grab boards and hit an occasional jumper when open or dunk it on people. An enforcer-type player.
Fisher would be an acceptable if not explosive PG that we could actually land. Okur would be the Ideal fill in at PF/BC if you ask me but thats a pipe dream.
