Both. Neither of them likes taking charge all that much, so they'll just have to share taking charge.
There is a reason McGrady wanted to come to the Rockets!!! To be with Yao. McGrady might win the Championship points, but it's Yao who will get you there.
I say Yao only because come crunch time, he'll be the team's first option. Unlike the Shaq/Kobe tandem(which Yao/T-Mac will be compared to ad nauseum next season), you can actually go to Yao in a close game since he makes free throws.
Could go either way. My suspicion is that they'll share. They're both cooperative and apparently don't have big egos. If one establishes themselves as the man in time, I think the other one will defer gracefully.
OK Mr. Ming. Francis is gone now so as of 6/29/04, Yao Ming no longer has Steve Francis attracting all the blame for this team's woes. The spotlight is now squarely on the big man and he now has to evolve into the 20 pt/game + 9 or 10 rebound/game player many think he is capable of becoming. If he thought he was under pressure his first two seasons (and he was considering so many predicted him to be a bust), he better be expecting the pressure to reach new levels next season. People are going to start annointing this team as the Shaq/Kobe replacement in the western conference and while I think McGrady is ready for the challenge, Yao Ming clearly has some hurdles to get over with if he is going to meet expectations. The flashes of greatness have to become consistent greatness. I hope the big man is up to the challenge because none of these moves mean a damn thing without the big man coming into his own.
Hmmm, I think Les is the owner of this team. Neither Yao nor T-Mac has big ego. I really don't see a clash.
It's obvious that neither Yao or T-mac is a leader they like doing their jobs and making the team better yet neither one of them is that big of a vocal leader that will push this team. They might quietly push each other but there has to be someone on the team like a Mario Elie, etc that might not be a superstar but can work up the team and make them shine. hopefully we can find that in the free agent market.
If T-Mac scores 28 ppg, it's his team without a doubt. But Yao should be able to push to about 20 ppg as well and start to stake a claim. But T-Mac is the team now. Van gundy has to let him loose.
