This team needs a rebound animal

We either need to groom Garuba into being the second coming of Dennis Rodman or focus on a ball hawk with the #17 pick. With the #26 pick, I'm intrigued by Jabari Walker out of Colorado. A little bit of a sleeper and a poor man's Tari Eason. I wouldn't be opposed to trying to land a pick in the 40's to grab him, as he's kind of already what we want Garuba to be. A long look at Justin Lewis at #26 would be worthwhile too, but I feel like trading into a second round pick might be the better gamble.

After they pick Banchero, the Rockets will be playing 2 bigs again, that'll solve a lot of the rebounding problems that micro ball caused.

Garuba probably won't be a factor next season unless he has a pretty big jump from where he was at last year. I think the hope is that he'll improve to be a potential bench quality player by the end of the season.

When he bothered to try, he was decent.....still glad he's gone though.

Oh yeah, classic Banger PF to put next to Yao

Don't forget to add in the need for a Pass First PG.

I agree. Inconsistent, but good. Like the guy but doesn't fit our timeline. Would love to see him get a chip with Luka and Dallas. Will follow closely his game with Luka at the helm.

Man, how can a Rockets fan support a Mavs team? I know you're a true Rockets supporter, perhaps you just carried away here.

I was happy when Dirk got a chip. I'm a fan of the game. If they play head to head, my loyalty is with the Rockets. Only teams I hate are the Knicks and the Lakers. Nets are inching up on that list, but for different reasons.

Pointless. Rebounding is the least important stat.

Before you vomit out the idea that rebounding is important: I know it is important. You can describe how it’s critical to defensive plays. I’m saying it’s the least important among important stats.

However, there is no less important box stat except steals. Points, assists, blocks, FTA, 3PM are all far more important.

A tanking team thinking about rebounding is a total waste of time and money. Rebounding is something you tweak when you’re a championship contender.

A player who can rebound like a monster and do nothing else significantly well is available at the minimum in any season at any moment. To spend a draft pick on it is absurd.

Right now we’re a nascent dynasty. We’re focused on big issues like defensive dynamism and offensive force. Rebounding is sub category. It’s like worrying about your tail light when you don’t have wheels.

This. Sengun is actually a pretty good rebounder. He's fundamentally sound, blocks out and has the innate ability to track shots and position himself to grab the board (plus he's scrappy). He's not insanely athletic, but those other skills can overcome that and he's still growing into his body.

If we can pick up Mark Williams or Jalen Duren at #17, either of those guys would be a great addition when we play bigger teams. I doubt either of them slides to 17. However, adding an Eason, Sochan or another long player at SF could also help with our rebounding.

Hopefully Garuba works on his body, conditioning and shooting this off-season. Don't see him as a starter anytime soon, but maybe he can grow into a valuable PF/Small ball 5 off the bench.
