The Rockets had the worst record in the league last year at 20 wins. Teams with picks 5/6/7 in the draft had records of 23/25/27 wins. The Rockets could have easily gotten bumped to that level or better just by improvements from last years rookies. However getting rid of their best player puts us right back in contention for the top pick. Wemby sweepstakes here we come!

Jovic is very underrated and I'm shocked by that. Look at his physicals and performance in a pro league and it's astounding he could be available to us at #17!?!

I look forward to your thoughts if the pick is used in a draft night trade to move up or get a player already in the league.

He doesn't play a lick on defense and he's slow.

That is a little misleading and not taking into account the circumstances.

First, this is like talking about a pimple on a whales ass. The Rockets were a terrible team whether wood played or sat.

But looking at the games he missed:

For TWO of the games earlier in the year this was the starting lineup:

    Garrison Mathews
    Jae'Sean Tate
    Armoni Brooks
    Daniel Theis
    D.J. Augustin

Also he missed a couple of games we were probably going to lose anyways against Philly, Miami, Phoenix, Dallas.

And then of course the bulk of the games he missed came at the end of the season where they sat him Gordon and Schroeder.

The games he missed usually coincided with other key players missing games as well.

Based on the reporting out there, this is roughly the deal they could have gotten at the deadline, maybe even a touch better. The real loss was not having traded him before the meltdown, or even before the year, when he would have fetched a higher first or maybe even a low first and another asset.

Never thought I'd reach the end of those clips.
    Sheesh.

Imagine watching that all year and not liking this trade.

Wood was worthless. 26th sucks but if you actually watch games he's not worth anything. They weren't going to pay him so if anything in that deal can be moved for a potential core piece I'm fine.

If you squint real hard, we actually got 3 1st round picks for Wood

    2022 #26
    2013 #9
    2016 #8

    so I guess that's a win?

People around here actually posted Wood getting an extension at big money would boost his value. Knowing how terrible his value is in reality, imagine him on a bloated deal fresh off an extension

I really hope they can use it in a trade up. My guess is that it might be easier to do something like OKC did and package this with other assets for a future FRP. Unlike OKC, the Rockets don't have cap space to absorb salary. I doubt the Rockets really want to tax the coaching staff with working with 3 more rookies while trying to get Green, Sengun, Christopher, Nix, and Garuba to make steps forward. The Rockets really need to be a decent team by 2024 as OKC's rebuild is on the same approximate timeline.

Quoting just because it appears a lot of y'all missed this. He doesn't have much value when this is true.

That thread featured some of the most backward thinking I've ever seen on this board and I've been here for 20+ years.

"I mean he's only making $13 million a season...think about how much more valuable he is making.....MORE money..."

I bet there are wood fans that think he's better than players on this list though

I'm guessing the plan is to move the pick for the reasons you listed.

That's a pretty crappy return, on par with what we were offered for EGo at the deadline. I was hoping Wood could be packaged to help us move up, not add another pick at the end of the first. I guess his stats weren't fooling anyone who paid attention.
