Meh. At the time, it was a good question. AB was putting up 20 with 5 dimes and looked to be improving steadily. Curry, despite very obvious talent, looked like he could have a career derailed by constant injuries early on. Some people really thought he was shorter Sam Bowie. Never will completely understand how they remade his ankle strength, but they did.
This was 6 years ago...Peak Brooks vs. Rookie Curry, who was better then? It is really hard to say...
It can be considered a miracle, but Curry changed up his game too. He started building a lot more in his lower body. He can deadlift 400 lbs, second most on the team behind Festus Ezeli. He started using his hips more to move around and taht took less pressure off the ankles. Interesting article I remember reading a while ago. http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/201...ayoffs-how-stephen-curry-put-ankle-issues-him
At the time Curry was already a better all-around player than Brooks. I loved AB as a Rocket but the dude was a catastrophe on defense. Curry has only recently become a good defender but even as a rook he was decent, and he was already a more efficient scorer and comparable passer.
Only for people who don't understand basketball. AB was never better than Steph Curry at any point in his career. You could make an argument stating that AB was less injury prone than Curry, but Curry was always in everything except speed. Curry was a better shooter, ball handler, scorer, passer, penetrator, ect. AB only had 2 things he was good at; speed and shooting. He was beyond crappy as an interior finisher and hence was scared to try most of the time. His handles were meh at best. His court vision sucked. He could never make 2 passes without turning the ball over once. A PG has to have higher than 2:1 Assist/TO ratio. His D was even worse than Harden's due to his size, weight, and strength. AB was your essential one trick pony. When he was shooting well, he did great. When his shot was flat, he was utterly, completely useless. There is a REASON why people wanted AB bench even when Lowry didn't develop his shot yet.
You know how sometimes you click on a thread, not realizing it's an old thread? Well, that didn't happen with this thread. I instantly knew this had to be an old thread.
Pretty funny looking back, but AB was having his MIP season, and Curry was getting a lot of flack for not being a good fit next to Monte Ellis. At the time, Brooks would have been the more valuable piece (lead the league in 3's made). We also used to debate Brooks V. Westbrook, lol. Stinks that all those guys kept getting better, and AB was never the same after that ankle roll. Funny how it only takes one little thing and a guy's confidence can completely derail.
What's crazy is Curry almost got traded for Amare (to pair him with Monta Ellis). Think about how everything turns out then.
