If you don't want a third pick in this year's draft then don't trade for one. Draft picks might be the currency of the NBA, but their value also has a short time limit. If you don't trade the pick before you actually need to make a selection the value craters. There are exceptions of course, like when we traded newly drafted Donte Greene plus another 1st for Ron Artest.

I'm with Corrosion, hold out for a 2023 or 2024 pick instead. I don't understand the rush to trade EGo at the first chance possible for a draft pick we don't even want, a draft pick we'd hope to flip in less than a month's time and everyone knows it. And multiple teams are trying to move up this year (OKC, SAS, us, and maybe Charlotte). That theoretical 27th in this year's draft is worth almost nothing.

    respectfully disagree.

    #27 picks
    https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/27th-overall-draft-picks-nba

    Recent Notables:
    Kazuma
    Robert Williams
    Siakam
    Gobert
    Etc……

not worth almost nothing. And just cause the rockets cant consolidate their roster doesnt mean #27 is worth almost nothing.

Lets consider that each year 60 players are drafted ..... and only about 15 of those earn a second contract.

Honestly EG on this roster is worth more to the growth of those young players, learning how to be professionals than the 27th-30th pick more often than not.

I still believe Stone didn't want that late pick in this draft because he already has so many young players who need minutes and that pick's value is totally diluted as a trade piece as a result.

There's really not much loss here if you wait, even if EG flops .... its the 30th pick which might equate to one or two spots from 17. I'd be willing to risk that paltry return for something better .....

If someone wants to add as many young prospects to the team as possible then trading for the theoretical 27th pick makes sense. But Williamson said he does not want a third pick in this year's draft, for "damn sure" not one at the end of the first round, probably because we already have four rookies and will be adding two more. Well if he doesn't want it then he shouldn't specifically ask to trade for it!

He said don't view the pick as "is this what we need right now", but how other teams see that asset and what we can potentially do with it. I think that in this particular draft, with four teams with multiple picks that are possibly trying to trade up, other teams will not value the 27th pick that highly. If you want the pick, great. If you only want it because "someone else will want it" it's a bad idea.

    Rockets did it in 2001 .... 13, 18 & 23 for 7. (Eddie Griffin)

I'm all about trading Eric Gordon for a late first if that late first is Christian Braun. If that option is on the table and they pass I will have lost all respect for Stone. That would be idiotic.

i remember being over the moon that we made that move. And Griffin was as good as advertised, but obviously it didn’t end up going the way we hoped. Richard Jefferson ended up being the true prize of that trade.

Get Wood out of here but keep Gordon & add a veteran point guard who understands he was hired to help mentor KPJ

    KPJ/Veteran
    Green/Christopher
    Gordon/#17
    Paolo/KMJ
    Sengun/rebounder

We need some sort of vet leadership on this team for at least one more year & I actually think that could be a play in team for real

Let Eric run out his contract. Come 2023 FA hopefully Wall, Gordon, & Woods contracts are off the books and we can make whatever adjustments before we become a true playoff team

Gordon is unlikely to get traded on draft day. He's more attractive during trade deadline. Title contender need extra help will want him. There are so many playoff team where their bench suck.

Might as well start wall lol

I can’t wait to see this starting lineup next year because of stones incompetence last year

    wood
    Paolo
    Gordon
    Green
    KPJ

lay up lines next year but at least we might be entertaining playing in “Silas offense”

lets face it, the odds of EG making it to next year’s trade deadline healthy are not great. Let’s learn from past experiences and trade him before he breaks down…again.

It's just not feasible to develop to develop like 7 rookies over two years, with more incoming. I'm very much in the camp of packaging some combo of Wood, Tate, Nwaba, EG, Josh Christopher, Garuba, #17, and pick swaps to get into the top ten or even top 13 plus hopefully consolidate some rosters spots.

I was at the draft when that happened. I used to go every year. I remember being one of the very few people cheering and going nuts for that. mostly a NY crowd.

    Yao
    EG
    Posey
    Cat
    Franchise

    That was a squad!

Stone's incompetence last year? He drafted Green, JC, Garuba, traded for Sengun as well as signed Gary Bird last year. Or do you mean the year before when he masterfully handled Harden trade and KPJ trade as well as drafted KJMartin and Jsean tate?

You are the incompetent one here if you think Stone is incompetent.

Does Gordon, Tate, and #26 get you #11 from the Knicks?
