Anyone else find it annoying that Stone grandstands about trading our top picks but never does?

Don't you find it annoying when people give lip service to possibly doing something stupid but never actually do the stupid thing?

I’m not sure I understand the OP’s beef. I just don’t like Stone’s ego mania, and lawyerly attitude. Hey but that’s just me. As long as he gets results I could care less about likeability

 

C'mon, we all know that EVERY account on CF is just one of my burners. This was settled long ago.

 

GMs are basically con men on a salary. Don’t let it aggravate you especially during a draft cycle.

 

Would fans be happy if all Stone we're preparing for all possibilities and be done with this.

you're lucky you missed the Morey and Tad Brown era.

 

This is a pretty one dimensional thought process. There are endless reasons for him to say this if you think about it. Before the draft and before trades are made that day, you want everyone on the roster to feel like nothing has changed because it has not. You want stability among the current team, dont say you may replace someone 3 months in advance.

Another reason could be box store like tactics, advertise the prize to get people to call you and kick tires and then work deals around the other pieces you really want to trade. You could also potentially get some insight into who other GMs are looking at for the 3rd pick as well. It is free information, so it does not hurt anyone.

Stone is an easy going GM, he tends to set expectations low in this rebuild, different team than Morey had , but Morey was the opposite, he would constantly say they are always trying to get better, meaning anything could go down. Regardless of what happened, he would always say everything happened nearly exactly how they wanted. It is part of the PR spin, they have to pat themselves on the back at the end to keep fans interested and to make the new players feel welcome.

 

You probably wasn't a Rockets fan during the Morey era.
