Any measures necessary to de-politicize the court. To make the court a nonpartisan entity, or have the court structured with short terms so their life isn’t their appointment (why there’s incentive to kill or root for death by natural causes… ie RGB death cheering, etc) So you support depoliticizing the court?? The exact method comes after we can agree to that basic need.
Why the Memory of Jan. 6 Can’t Prevent a Trump Resurgence https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/11/opinion/jan-6-trump.html excerpt: Some of the people who hold this view are conservatives: Not deep-dyed Trumpists, but Republicans who supported him with noses held and might vote against him in a primary, but who would probably back him again against Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. Others are swing voters, especially the disaffected kind that swung from Barack Obama to Trump in 2016, gave Biden a chance in 2020, but are swinging back rightward even now. Together these constituencies make a Trump resurgence imaginable. Together they’re the Americans whose minds the committee wants to change, by persuading them that in the drama of our times Trump is a uniquely malign figure, that his quest for a constitutional crisis proved NeverTrumpism right once and for all. I believe this myself. Unfortunately I can also see how the everybody’s implicated sensibility endures — because it’s constantly reinforced by a liberal establishment that’s officially committed to combating it. In this sense the powers undermining the Jan. 6 committee include not just its Republican critics, but some of its most devoted champions — from Democratic politicians who demand that conservatives vote for them to save democracy even as they themselves swing leftward, away from common ground, to media institutions whose sense of Trumpian emergency constantly undermines their claims of neutrality and fairness. The last week brought a depressing example of this pattern. As the media geared up to cover the Jan. 6 committee hearings, a young man seemingly motivated by liberal causes — a constitutional right to abortion and gun control — crossed the country with the apparent intention of assassinating Brett Kavanaugh at the justice’s Maryland home. He was an isolated figure, but it was not an isolated act: Since the leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion on abortion, justices have faced protests outside their homes and threats of violence, and pro-life organizations, especially crisis pregnancy centers, have been hit with arson and vandalism. (The Washington, D.C., center where my family used to donate diapers was one of the targets.) Yet the coverage of this campaign in mainstream news outlets has been limited, perfunctory. Kavanaugh’s would-be assassin did make the pages of this newspaper and The Washington Post. But neither that specific threat — a constitutionally substantial one, given that an assassination really could tip the balance of the court — nor the general intimidation campaign has been treated as really big news, something that merits the intensive coverage that equivalent tactics from the right would undoubtedly receive. It’s a similar pattern to what you saw around the George Floyd protests in 2020, when much of the ostensibly neutral press found it politically difficult — as New York magazine’s Jonathan Chait put it recently — to use “clear language to describe the rioting and looting that was springing up around some demonstrations or the effects of the de-policing that took place in some areas in response.” Again and again, the spirit of emergency has converged with pre-existing ideological bias to both downplay and tacitly encourage radicalization on the left. This has pernicious effects on how liberals understand the world. Just as a lot of Fox News viewers don’t know what they should about Jan. 6, I encountered many high-information liberals across late 2020 who had literally no idea about the scale of damage from the spring and summer rioting. But more important, it has effects on Americans who do see the fuller story, who are extremely aware that there’s more beyond the liberal media than just “disinformation” — and who are thereby drawn back toward a general skepticism, the everybody’s implicated sensibility, no matter what you tell them about Trump. more at the link
I guess you are a libtard trying to talk about Jan 6 at any chance you get. Thanks for keeping it relevant.
pretty hilarious that progressives will pooh-pooh an "unsuccessful" assassination attempt on a judge's life but get all worked up about an "unsuccessful" coup attempt on the U.S. government, and then go back to pooh-poohing the "mostly peaceful" George Floyd "protests" . . . . I think the point of the essay is pretty clear. something about a "mote in the eye" . . . .
Term limits would be fine but I don't think it solves the underlying problem (namely, in our separation of powers, checks and balances system, the checks on SCOTUS are lacking). Besides, this is just disingenuous sour grapes. The left loses their ideological majority on the court and suddenly they're for judicial term limits. Just like the Dems mastered gerrymandering for a century, and suddenly when the GOP starts doing it, it has to be eliminated.
If you don't understand the diffference between this: and a person turning themselves in to authorities without even going on to their target's property then your standards of "pooh pooh" seem pretty skewed. As said the USSC Justices should be safe and the current Administration has added more security around the Court and there is a bill that was passed overwhelmingly bipartisanly in the Senate to give more security to the Justices.
You are a mark. You are a political commentary network's wet dream. You suck up every opinion from your favorite shows and spew them constantly. As a Democrat you are not alone. It happens with Republicans too. You just don't have the self awareness to realize your own sin. You bought everything anti Trump and have it on speed dial. The anger toward that man, his supporters, Fox News and Republicans in general flow from every pore on your body. You likely have a line that you won't cross regarding resorting to violence personally but are blinded when another mark like the kid who showed up at Justice Kavanaugh does. You don't care that some idiot might kill the Judge because CNN or whomever has you that worked up to somehow think Cavanaugh deserved it. And I do not discount that you probably think it would be a bonus because BIden could select a liberal judge to replace him. Wake up! I don't see where you have the capacity to rationally converse with open minded individuals. This world makes a turn for the better when people stop allowing the news be "spun" fed to them. You are a glutton for one sided opinion.
Actually giving the justices guns and protectors with guns is a great idea. Everyone deserves safety. And yes the left has many people with mental health issues and they attack court houses. You nailed it! While we are on the topic: You should all should ask yourselves why is it that politicians and celebrities who are constantly trying to strip citizens of their rights to arms are surrounded by armed guards.
The real question is why don't we just issue a gun to every 18 year old in this country on their birthday. Also, people should be required to bring a gun to a protest, this would result in less violence and rioting as well as aiding the police in maintaining order. Nothing helps cool down angry confrontations than having a gun to point at someone.
Ruinous? Only about an annual budget of $2 billion a year. A small price to pay for for less suicides and homicides. Imagine if every wife could shoot her husband, every kid could shoot their bullies, and every store owner could shoot a protestors. Soon violence would go down to the lowest levels of any nation in the world. The US would be known as a more peaceful country. Haven't we learned anything from Mutually Assured Destruction?
I don't watch TV. I am not a democrat, just lean that way with all the conmen on the right these days. I think for myself, the irony of the Fox News brigade projecting on others is once again displayed in your post. The vast majority of the USA wants the following. 1. Gun Control 2. Universal Health Care 3. Tax corporations 4. Term limits on the House, Senate and Supreme Court 5. A large investment in infrastructure. Along with several other non - GOP items...... Right now you have too much power consolidated with old white men, who have lied to their constituents about Trickle down and used propaganda to hide the truth from the ignorant...... The USA needs to move forward, away from racism, Oligarths, and facist tendencies from the right. We will get there - just need to continue to energize the majority. DD
yeah, but there would be public demand for high-quality guns, otherwise the Little People™ would accuse the Congress of discriminating against them. Hence everyone would get a choice between a $5000 semi-auto, a $10,000 double barrel, or a $20,000 pearl-handled Patton pistol
No problem, just get rid of SNAP to pay for it. Food stamps can help you eat for a day, but a gun can help you eat forever.
I'm just saying poor people might complain that they're not getting a high-enough quality firearm when they start looking around on Gun Broker to see what's out there. people always complain. then say things like "thanks Obama"
Sorry. I call bullshit with all the hardcore rants on the Republican party that you make that you are this politically balanced person. That may be who you think you are.
