This is very close to my view on Wood. The comparison I always run into is Nurkic. When I try to look at a trade with Portland, I wind up asking myself why they wouldn’t just keep him instead of trading for Wood? Wood is a better 3 point shooter, but the comps are very similar. Nurkic’s salary was $12m this year and he is a free agent, so I think his signing this summer could help set the market on Wood.
2023 is going to be a hot time for free agents, we need to keep our options open https://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/2023/
I don't really know why people seem to be freaking out about this. I want Wood out of here, but I think he does have talent. He does have value. If the Rockets didn't explore re-signing him they wouldn't be doing their jobs. As others have mentioned, he'll likely have more value in trade if, for example, they signed him at a reasonable price for another 3 years. I'm absolutely opposed to extending him for the max, but if they find they can get him a reasonable price they'd be foolish not to pursue it. Simultaneously, they ought to be asking any interested parties what they feel a fair to good value for Wood is and offering to pay him within that range.
The problem with Wood on offence is he doesn’t set picks for other players, he sets a “pick” to slip to the 3 point line. He purely plays for himself on that end and is a weakness on the defensive end. There is always players on the worst teams in the league that put up numbers. Wood isn’t a scrub. He could fill a role for the right team but his not a star on a good team no way.
Looks awful to me... jokic is the only one reasonably young and worth max... They aren't going to go max on Beal with Green. Wiggins isn't worth it. Harden? Outside of Jokic i see none worth it and i doubt he's leaving denver to take less money...
If Levine was leaving Chicago I’d jump at that. I could see Harden interested in a return if it looks like we are a team on the come by the end of the season, which is highly unlikely. Our best shot at a impact/max-type free agent is 2024. That class is much better.
It seems like ball dominant scoring guard is pretty much covered... They invested a #2 pick in Green to have him play off the ball long term? It just seems like an akward fit.... Ideally you're getting someone off a rookie contract and gamble knowing if you hit you have a long term piece...
The video the rockets posted on Instagram yesterday didn’t have Wood in it, or KJ either for that matter. Maybe looking into it but was a group of like 6 players? Maybe they are the core going forward …
I really like the way KMJ plays with Sengun and Green but he could be the odd man out. That spot in the rotation alongside our current core needs to bring the D at a higher level than KMJ can provide.
I agree with the 2024 free agency but I'm not sure if we'll have enough cap space by then. We'll probably have two more high 1st rd picks and will have also paid KPJ. I'd like them to use Wall as an expiring and trade for some bad contracts in exchange for some assets. Unfortunately, I get the felling they'll just wait till next summer and overpay a role player just to use the space.
Most of the trade proposals I see are 1:1 deals where a team wants Wood and we get a return for him, or we use him with our draft pick to move up. I don't see that happening (I see us trying to move up, but Tate is more likely to get moved as part of that). Not because it can't, but because I think the more likely scenario for Wood being moved this offseason will be as part of a larger deal where we're playing a facilitating in a larger trade - something like a Rudy Gobert getting traded or De'andre Ayton and Wood is included to one of the teams as a returning piece and we're getting future draft assets.
I've got the LA teams earmarked for that Wall/EGo/Wood expiring cap space Not really sure why but I think one or both of Kawhi and George will be in a different uni by next summer Same for ADavis One of the three will leave LA for sure at some point in the next year Just a hunch I want us to be positioned to consolidate all that open cap room and all those future picks into a legit 2way star to teach the kids how to win
KJ'S best 5-man net rating that has any kind of significant sample size is a +13.7 in 43 minutes over 4 games, and that's with KPJ, Green, EG, KJ and Sengun. The rest of the positive net rating KJ lineups are all in 22 minutes or less...
Ja and Ant won't be available. Ant won't even actually be a free agent. Ja would only be a restricted free agent, but Memphis will max him before he ever becomes a free agent. The same is likely to happen for Edwards. That list doesn't do a good job of clearly conveying who would be restricted and who is unrestricted. I think I like this list better. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/32049869/nba-free-agents-team-team-lists-2022-2023
