This is what I like when people insist on using W/L to show effectiveness as a pitcher. Stat people are beyond this, but there are a lot of those who still insist on using it for awards. But the other is good for it's purposes. Stats are only useful if presented by objective people to people that understand at least the basics of statistics. Otherwise it becomes snake oil marketing and that most repulsive of lies after Lies and Damned Lies.
Perhaps NYY play isn't sustainable. We can only hope, because I don't see this team replacing Yuli or Maldy, even if that is whats needed. While getting guys back from injury and guys turning it around could help, who knows where guys will be in October. I do agree that at some point, our brass needs to take a close look at NYY. They seem more formidable this year than the last several and unless Boston, the Blue Jays or the Rays go red hot and NYY go cold, the NYY are the team we will have to solve to win the ALCS.
In the 4 normal seasons/playoffs since 2017 the Astros are 7-0 in the ALDS/ALCS with homefield advantage and 0-1 when they don't (Boston 2018). I'm all for the Astros not having the homefield advantage if they make it to the World Series again.
The Yankees have certainly been the best team in baseball so far this season, and maybe they will be wire to wire but it usually doesn't work that way. The Astros were clearly the best team and lost to the Nationals a few years ago. The last real wire to wire team I can think of was the Cubs. The Yankees have the finances and farm system to add to what they have. However there is a lot of season left and they are relying on guys that are old (Donaldson), have substantial injury risks (Judge/Stanton/Taillon) or unproven players (Trevino/Cortes). The last I read they had about a 20% chance of winning the WS, and the Astros were at 10% ....... and that seems about right at this point. There are teams out there that could potentially give them fits.... the Astros, Dodgers, Brewers, Blue Jays. Also keep an eye on Boston and JD Martinez. He is the type of bat that could swing a team like the Astros or Brewers into a head to head match up being a pick em.
also not convinced Gallo is not a below average everyday player no matter what the nonsensical advanced stats say. They’re due for some regression
Boston was wire to wire in 2018; although they were cheating, right? Only time the Astros have been eliminated in the AL since 2017 in a normal season.
With the ridiculous heat wave in CenTex, this is a wonderful weekend to sit around the house like a bum and watch the Super Regionals and Astros. Hook 'Em
Mize having TJ surgery. That’s why you don’t build your core around young pitching (at least not without building a young lineup first).
If I weren’t so ashamed of our country right now, and our inability to pass common sense gun legislation, I would say these are fire…
Don't bring politics in here. It ruins every sub forum when it happens and this is the best one on this site imo. Thanks
In these troubled times, I think it's good that America can unite around the fact that those hats are ugly AF.
