Spencer Arrighetti vs. Greenville: 5 IP, 3 H, 8 K Jaime Melendez with his best outing of the year for Corpus: 5 IP, 2 H, BB, 5 K
lol Valdez has increased his MLB Steamer projection from around 100 wRC+ to 112 in like 2-3 weeks. Could have a 120+ projection soon if he keeps it up...
Yes. But he’s only 5’8”. Not an ideal 1B size. He would be fine there as a backup option but not somebody you want out there full time.
Axell de Paula and Rafael Ramirez hit their first home runs for the DSL Blue team today. Meanwhile for the Orange team, Carlos Arcila, who is normally a catcher, pitched three innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out one. I'll wait and see if that's a typo.
I think there may be an issue with the pitchers in the DSL. The previous day's starter gave up 6 runs while getting nobody out, and the starting DH and CF each pitched an inning. It is odd to see a position player pitch 3 innings, especially after starting at catcher the previous day.
Yesterday snapped a 19 game on-base streak for Kenedy Corona. He slashed .333/.407/.693 with 7 HRs over that span. He's not super young low A at 22, but he's having a nice season so far. He was acquired along with Taylor for Marisnick. Another guy who has quietly had a great season is Quincy Hamilton. I couldn't figure out why he didn't play very much his first couple years of college, but in his one season as a full time player, he had nearly twice as many walks as strikeouts, hit 15 HRs and stole 20 bases. He's turns 24 in a few days and recently got promoted to high A, but he's 3rd in the system in WRC+ behind Valdez and Barber, showing some power and speed while sporting nice strikeout and walk rates.
Miguel Ullola vs. Delmarva: 4 IP, 3 H, unearned run, 3 BB, 7 K The run scored on an error he committed.
Julio Robaina vs. San Antonio: 4 IP, 3 H, BB, 7 K Wilyer Abreu hit a walk-off 3-run homer (9) for Corpus tonight. Oppo too!
Huge night for Logan Cerny, who hit a couple of RBI singles to go with this three-run blast, giving him 5 RBI. Joey Loperfido finished 5-6 with a two-run double and an RBI single.
Would it be possible to get a thread specifically for players on rehab assignment? As far as I know, we have two now in Meyers and Jones with McCullers and Taylor in the near future. Mushinski and Odorizzi may or may not need rehab. I'd like to know the good, the bad and the ugly in their appearances.
Spoiler Astros: Carlos Espinosa, RHP (unranked on Astros Top 30) The top pitcher in the Astros' 2021-22 international class, Espinosa signed for $480,000 out of Cuba in January. He sits at 93-96 mph with his fastball, backs it up with a hard slider and throws strikes.
Waner Luciano just hit his second home run for the DSL Orange team. Obviously, it's just the first week of complex league play so the only conclusion that's worth drawing is Luciano is having a nice start to his career.
Raimy Rodriguez made his second appearance for the DSL Orange team and was pretty solid in his 3 innings, allowing a run, a hit, walking one, and striking out five. The run scored on a double play. Rodriguez, who is currently the youngest player in the entire Astros organization, has been cited by Ben Badler as a sleeper from this year's IFA class.
Yainer Diaz, JJ Matijevic, Cristian Gonzalez, Chad Stevens, Justin Williams, and Nerio Rodriguez all have HR so far tonight. Nerio is probably ready for AA but there’s a bit of a catching logjam at the moment.
