The Angels Have Tried Everything And They’re Still Losing In a bid by the coaches to “shake things up” during a 13-game losing streak, all nine members of the Angels’ batting order picked a different song by the band Nickelback to accompany them as they stepped to the plate. “I like it,” said Angels interim manager Phil Nevin. “I like Nickelback. The entire game, I’ve got songs in my head I can’t stop singing.” The Angels were shut out. https://defector.com/the-angels-have-tried-everything-and-theyre-still-losing/
Aaron Judge favored to win AL MVP after scorching start to MLB season Yordan Alvarez, Astros (+2500) If anyone can threaten Judge's reign as baseball's ultimate power king, it's Alvarez. He actually leads MLB in hard-hit rate (64.2%) and expected slugging percentage (.788), per Statcast. That's translated into a whopping 95 hard-hit balls and 27 barrels for the Astros slugger, with 17 leaving the park as of Wednesday. That's still a notch behind Judge (22), though Alvarez is drawing more walks and striking out less than the Yankees star. Alvarez also has a much lower BABIP (.267) to support his box-score metrics. Positive regression could be on his side down the stretch, and he has the power to compete with Judge in the relevant areas that voters tend to favor at season's end. Health is always a concern for Alvarez - and Judge, for that matter - but at this price, it's well worth the wager. https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2371018 Link to player stats: Judge: https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/33192 Yordan: https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/36018

Strasburg looks done. He’s had a few good starts this year so it’ll be interesting to see if he can return to form, but he just gave up 3 in the first to MIA and his season to date doesn’t look super inspiring.
LaRussa gonna LaRussa. I hope the CWS never fire him. 2 outs, man on 1st, Trea Turner at the plate. WP opens up 1st and with a 1-2 count he chooses to IBB Turner. Max Muncy promptly hits a 3R HR. Sox end up losing 11-9. His postgame interview was pure TLR, letting everyone know that it was a no-brainer move and that anyone who thinks otherwise is beneath his impeccable baseball intellect. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...ionally-walk-trea-turner-1-2-count-tough-call
I've become less concerned about 9 PM starts as staying awake for the 7pm starts has become a bigger issue. I bet all day games was wonderful before they lit up the ball parks.
Has there been a pitcher who has come back from TOS surgery and been dominant? Seems to be a career ender
When Minnesota and the Yankees play, the Twins winning is the worse outcome. Best record and homefield don't mean anything in baseball, the difference between the 2nd and 3rd seed is massive in this new format. Not that I'm particularly worried about Minnesota finishing ahead of us, but I would like as much comfort in a top 2 seed as possible. Granted the Yankees ever winning kinda sucks.
This is RS/IP (different column) Jose Urquidy 7.7 (2) Jake Odorizzi 4.4 (52) Framber Valdez 3.9 (72) Justin Verlander 3.5 (92) Cristian Javier 3.4 (95) Luis Garcia 3.1 (105)
Right, that's runs scored per 9 IP while the pitcher is in the game. The one that's always referred to when people discuss "run support" is runs scored per 9 IP in games started by a pitcher, whether or not he's in the game when they're scored.
Yep. Astros don’t really look like a very good matchup against the Yankees on either side of the ball. Yankees have a better lineup (with Trevino hitting extremely well at catcher, and no everyday players except Falefa being below average), and the NY rotation has been stellar (all 5 SP <3.68 xfip). I am fine with them standing pat in the rotation as I do think if McCullers/Odo comes back healthy or Urquidy rights the ship they will be able to matchup with the Yankees rotation. But if they don’t think Yuli is going to turn it around (which there’s not much reason for me to believe he will at this point, as he’s had over 200 pa), they need to upgrade his lineup spot (along with probably doing something at catcher).
