This stuff is some of the worst sense of entitlement. Navarro, Trump and many of these guys feel they are above the law.

They need to be held accountable to help ensure nothing like this happens again.

    Primetime TV? Lol

20,000 troops could have secured this building if they weren't going to lock the doors. Trump should have requested troops.

It damn well should. None of that would have happened if he hadn't spread all his propaganda and lies to invite them or told them to storm the Capitol. It's all on him.

true, but we all know nothing will happen

they’ll get some of the no-names and nobodies that actually stormed the Capitol, and they might get some of Trump’s little henchmen that were involved in the planning, and then that will be that

He needs to be charged to stop him, and others like him from doing the same thing again. Nobody should get a get out of jail free card simply because they were or are Presidents, or any other elected officials or politicians. It's bad enough we have accused felons still performing official duties until their court dates come around.

Qanon will convince their base that the proud boys are actually all clones of Hunter Biden.

Seems Hunter Biden, Rap music kids, and wokeness are greater threats to democracy than a president and his party working to overthrow an election.

@Os Trigonum give an actual opinion and not post some opinion article or blogger's opinion? Don't hold your breath.

FOX is a GOP propaganda channel as are many of the outlets right-wingers depend on for news. We've known that for a long time.

Saddly I agree that Trump is very unlikely to face any criminal charges. First off these are complicated cases and proving them isn't a simple as just saying Trump said this and that happened. The bigger factor is that I believe Biden and Garland do not want to be seen as prosecuting a former President. For one prosecuting political opponents they feel might set a bad precedent and my guess is they fear there might be more violence if they do.

Heaven forbid, rich old white men are held responsible for their crimes.

FWIW letting a sitting President do crimes without any real accountability is itself a bad precedent.

    ETA:
Right or wrong, Trump as President investigated Hillary. It was a campaign promise even.

Is there little doubt that Trump as President would lead to charge to put Hillary or Obama in jail if he could?

The Anticlimax of the Jan. 6 Hearings

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/08/opinion/january-6-hearings.html

    excerpt:

Even if they manage to drag a few million American eyeballs away from the streaming platforms for a few evenings with some measure of spectacle and the promise of comeuppance for some of the minor and expendable figures from Trumpworld, their scope and impact are likely to be minor. The modern Democratic Party has not often shown itself to be capable of transcendent political showmanship, and the televised congressional hearing, as a genre, has likewise been in decline for a long time.

Democrats, liberals generally and a few anti-Trump Republicans who have become pariahs in their party have been burned before in their efforts to hold Donald Trump and his allies accountable — by the breathlessly anticipated report from Robert Mueller, by two impeachments that led only to acquittals in the Senate, by the steady drip-drip of petty crimes and gross corruptions out of Mr. Trump’s circle, none of which brought about the cinematic courtroom conclusion that many seemed to hope for: an unambiguous and final guilty verdict.

What’s more, there is little evidence to suggest that something as analog and old-fashioned as sworn witness testimony is going to change anyone’s mind. Frustrated Democratic voters have watched for years as the G.O.P. has wielded congressional hearings to great media effect while their own party clung to forms and procedures, unable and unwilling to do what was necessary to break through the noise.

As with so much else in America’s increasingly gerontocratic political culture, the desire for decisive congressional hearings feels trapped in amber, pure nostalgia for a now-lost and lamented era of consensus reality, when, as it has become fashionable to observe, people disagreed about politics and policies but agreed on the facts.

Make our capitol more like our schools: one door, no clean lines of sight.

Right will portray this as a witch hunt and Dems committing a crime. GOP wins the white house in 2024 they will go after Dems.

We're heading down a very dark road. I am losing confidence our democracy is going to hold up.

the U.S. is pretty resilient, and we survived a civil war. I think we'll be alright. ;)
