I've been preaching 6'6" to 6'9" players for a long time here. If you look at the trends that's what playing out nowadays. The 270 pound centers are extinct in exchange for the slimmer 245 pound center;which is moving towards the 225 pound center. Micro-ball set this team back as we used WB, McLemore, Austin Rivers, Eric Gordon at SF with Harden. Now Patrick Fertitta has compromised with me in my eyes by meeting me somewhat in the middle by getting me 6'5-ish" players that can play above the rim. You may not see it, but the NBA is going that way. Will Barton at 6'5" has been listed as SF for years and so has been Tim Hardaway Jr at 6'5". More and more teams are pushing for greater pace and speed with wingspans. Miles McBride is 6'2" with a 6'9" wingspan. MJ had a 6'9" wingspan. Marcus Smart is listed as PG each game on NBA.com game tracker. 6'9" wingspan. Ivey has a 6'9" wingspan according to some outlets. CF's is enamored with the 6'10" player......trying to make each 6'10" player the next great new thing. All of them supposedly have Point Guard skills. Sid Finch and the 105 mph fastball by SI the Magazine April Fool's edition. Here Banchero is a SF slash PG..... So we can have the best of both worlds as big man slash Small man skills. But I'm not impressed with his pedestrian type big man skills. Blocks and rebound % were like guard like almost. I want to see Charles Bassey or Evan Mobley or Kessler like block amounts. No I got guard like block numbers from Banchero. Not impressed. I'd rather go with EJ Liddell later in the draft.
Maybe, I don't see that happening. Paolo takes pride in keeping himself in shape. His mom is a baller. I think that will remain a positive influence on him hopefully.
What you are preaching IS micro-ball, it's a fad and just like all fads it'll pass. I'm sure if you followed football you were REALLY into the wildcat at some point too. Well rounded teams always win out in the end over the gimmick teams.....even if the gimmick teams can have limited success early on till the league adjusts to the gimmick. It's okay, we'll wait it out.
nearly 40 years ago The Godfather-in-Training, P Riles, said the future of the NBA is 5 6’9” guys. And that, today, would play great. If the 5 6’9” guys were great, together that is, at the least.
Paolo is the wise, smart, safe pick….Ivey is the fun guilty pleasure pick. Tough call for the Rockets. I go back and forth, but lean towards Paolo only because we already have Green and don’t need a SG.
You can’t run if you are pulling the ball out of the basket every time. We have to improve our defense and defensive rebounding and outlet passing. If the Rockets pick Ivey, they have to get a defensive stopper, reliable defensive rebounder and outlet passer. That’s why Jabari is such a great fit even with the current crew. Unfortunately, that shipped has sailed. Wood can rebound, but he can’t/won’t play defense and his next outlet pass will be his first. I’m not big on Paolo and might try and either trade up for Jabari or trade down picking up another lottery pick for next year. I wonder if Orlando would take #3 and next year protected 1-3 for #1? Jabari settles so many concerns for us.
That’s why I’m against using the #3 or #17 on anyone under 6’8. Paolo & another 6’8 forward should be all we are after
I do agree that Ivey can only be an asset for Houston if he plays as a passer first, scorer second. Otherwise, he will end up hurting Green. I believe he can do that, but it won't be easy. @ApacheWarrior
I find Ivey intriguing (in a good way), but one main fear comes into play. That being, we win too many games next year to get a top pick and have to settle for a 2nd tier big man/forward. And then ensues small ball purgatory for the foreseeable future. If there was a way to get Ivey and also add a significant big (really need 2 or 3), then I am good with adding Ivey.
I really hope we can somehow grab the number 4 pick from Sacramento. We have the resources to get this done.
No micro ball as used by D'Antoni was a gimmick. Had they did what I said and used 6'7" bodies it would have worked. Rockets best season in the last 10 years had Ariza and Prince Luc M. If only Luc hadn't dislocated his shoulder right before the playoffs and Ariza hadn't burned out every playoff because he had to cover for both Harden and Beverley defensively. But if you remember D'Antoni used micro ball with Austin Rivers and Ben McLemore, and Westbrook, and C Clemons and Chrizo and Eric Gordon.......but, most importantly took out Capela by trade and tried using 6'5" PJ Tucker at Center or Covington. We later found out Covington couldn't guard anyone out on the perimeter. But the concept is sound. Warriors and Celtics are in the finals using the same beliefs. Using zone defense here and there in spot situations. Is Marcus Smart a point guard? No but he is being used as one. The Celtics took out the point guard Schroder who was Rondo old school of, nobody gets the assists unless it comes from me style. Teams don't want that anymore. It's assist by committee. Pritchard minutes dropped the entire playoffs until get got matched up vs Steph and the Warriors. Look at the Celtics win % since the trade deadline with Marcus Smart moving to PG and the addition of Derrick White. The success is not because of Theis. Sorry to say. But Theis does help Robert Williams save himself from a nightly pounding. But Robert Williams shows you our Center doesn't have to shoot 3's. He is 6'8".......Garuba is 6'8".....doesn't shoot 3's much. If I had my wish we would go #3 Ivey #17 Eason Roster would be Ivey Green Porter ..(Tate?...Kenyon?.. practicing their 3-ball? because KPjr was 48% from CnS 3) Eason........(Wood?) Sengun Small Ball lineup Ivey Green Porter Eason Wood Now next season I have the Rockets drafting either Cameron Whitmore or Dillion Mitchell in the pick #4 to #7 range If they miss out on Wembanyama. The Roster would look like: 1) Ivey (6'4" but plays like 6'6") 2)Green (MJ despite what you say) 3) Dillion Mitchell (6'7" gives you O & D....shoots 3's and can dribble facilitate or 3) Cameron Whitmore (6'7" same as above and looks like a taller Marcus Smart) 4) Eason 5) have money for free agency (Myles Turner at age 27 if Sengun isn't fast enough or Garuba is still lagging to NBA mentality) Positions 1-4 are all dynamic, above the rim, facilitators, that can shoot 3's and pass while taking it to your face basketball. In the mold of what I'm have been preaching for years and is what the NBA is becoming. This give me a 6'10" guy and convert him to PG or SG or SF was thrown my way with Evan Mobley.....then with Sengun....and now let's discard Sengun and re-invent the wheel with Banchero. Here is an outside the box idea.....how about next year we draft a SF and let him play freaking SF?!? I don't need to say bring that 6'10" guy Banchero and a hammer and let's hope we can make him fit!!
Ivey wasn't the best guard or prospect in the Big 10 this year... Ivey: elite athlete, terrible defender, suspect shooter, bad decision maker, great size. Branham: average athlete, bad defender, good shooter, decent decision maker, great size Davis: good athlete, elite defender, suspect shooter, great decision maker, great size. And because everyone loves talking about highschool... Davis dropped 40 on Chet & Suggs in highschool.
This board has gone insane comparing David Roddy to Paolo while advocating for drafting a PG who can't pass in Ivey.
Maybe. Doncic sometimes looks too heavy. Harden as well. Vince Young admitted going to Cheesecake Factory once a week and spending $2000 a pop with family. You know Vince did some eating with that. Zion likes to eat a whole pizza with soda. Concerns the Pelicans front office. https://larrybrownsports.com/basketball/report-describes-zion-williamson-eating-habits/588570 Edited: my mistake $5000 a week https://www.sbnation.com/2012/9/20/...y-spent-5000-a-week-at-the-cheesecake-factory
Numerous HOFers slipped in the draft because of this methodology. You don't draft by height and wingspan you dorks...
Yeah or If you want some sweet layup lines pre-game, and then of course all those freaks end up on the bench because they can't actually hoop. Artesia had literally 5+ guys with more hops and length than James Harden. You couldn't even notice James in layup lines. You know how that story ends... Where in the world is Renardo Sidney??? Malik Story???
