This sort of out of the box thinking is encouraged and even rewarded at progressive tech companies. It doesn't happen in cube farms were everyone hates their job. You can't turn back the clock. Know what these progressive companies do now? They pay for retreats where everyone is excited to come, see each other once or twice a year and have a working vacation. A good friend of mine works for a white hat hacking company and it's what they are doing next week. He's excited and doesn't see it as a work week, more of a professional challenge and a way to hang out with like-minded peers.
