If 2022 is his age 25 season, this contract will cover 26,27,28,29,30 and 31 seasons. His FA season is for his age 32 season.

If he's still productive then, especially if he's moved to 1B, he could play another 6-8 years beyond this contract.

That’s a great stat. Remember Evan Gattis as a catcher? Barry Bonds out there.

I'm looking at baseball reference and I think they use June 1 as the season age cutoff. This indicates a discrepancy.
I just checked and the cutoff is June 30, so that explains it. He has a birthday in that 30 day difference.

    My mistake.

It's kind of crazy to think about, and yes it would have been a 10 year deal, but Correa wanted 3 times what Alvarez just got.

I wish we had someone like Evan again. .879 OPS as a catcher during our WS run.

So...we don't pay Carlos, we get what appears to be an upgrade in Pena, and we extend Alvarez. This is a good year. Yes, Tucker next would be awesome.

What’s more crazy is he wanted over $10M more annually than Jose Ramirez took.

Has the potential to be the greatest offensive Astro ever. Hopefully he continues that pace.

Just looking at oWAR, unless he picks it way up I'm not sure he's even in Bagwell's ballpark after 15 years or so.

But I sure hope the same as you.

Why are you even looking at oWAR? Aside from only being 24 years old and ahead of where Bagwell was at his age, it’s a different era - hitting is WAY harder than it’s ever been. I’d bet the house a juiced up Yordan would have outdone Bagwell by a long shot had they played during the same time. Also, oWAR takes position into consideration and that obviously hurts Yordan playing DH.

Yordan is behind ONLY Trout since he’s been up in wRC+. Bagwell was never the 2nd best offensive player in his era. Bagwell only had one season with a wRC+ higher than Yordans rookie year and this season. Once again, this is at age 24 and after multiple knee surgeries so he’s only going to get better - his peripherals show it’s no fluke. Finally, Bagwell was absolute garbage in the playoffs/clutch hitting (.685 ops) whereas Yordan has an OPS well above .800 in the playoffs.

So yeah at this point I’m taking Yordan.

Yordan hasn't had to carry the team with almost no help (Biggio being the exception early.) But I bet Bagwell is rooting for Yordan to surpass his numbers.

He's not Bagwell. I suspect that a lot of posters didn't watch Bags or realize how good he was (post season not withstanding)
