Strange move for all involved. While Liverpool wasn't likely to be able to afford to keep both Mane and Salah, still seems like a move (no offense Bayern fans) backwards. Pretty much any move from Liverpool that wasn't to City or Real is at this point, though...arguably only to City.
Since we're not having a World Cup these days, as we should, at least the Nations League grants some interesting matchups, starting today (all 20:45 CET). Jun 2: Spain v Portugal Jun 3: France v Denmark Jun 3: Belgium v Netherlands Jun 4: Italy v Germany Jun 5: Portugal v Switzerland Jun 6: Croatia v France Jun 7: Germany v England Jun 8: Belgium v Poland Jun 9: Switzerland v Spain Jun 10: Denmark v Croatia Jun 11: England v Italy Jun 11: Netherlands v Poland Jun 12: Switzerland v Portugal Jun 13: France v Croatia Jun 14: Germany v Italy
Watching this Ireland v Armenia game (yeah, I know...why?) and still just baffled at linesmen not putting the flag up when it's so blatantly offside. Armenian player is 5 yards off right in front of the linesman and they play it on. Armenia put the ball in the net but it was clearly coming back. Why do they still insist on putting players in harms way when they know with 100% certainty they're going to call it back? What benefit is there to gain from that? If it's close, fine, play on just in case. But there was clear air space between the Armenian player and the last Irish defender. Put the flag up and stop the play.
They are actually obliged to raise the flag when the situation is obvious, but this whole VAR thing has made the ref crews so insecure that at some point the video assistants will make all the calls. Not happy with Germany's performance versus Italy's U23 yesterday. Flick needs to find a solution at center forward, Werner can't be the first option here. Henrichs, Kehrer and Hofmann are all not good enough for international competition.
Imagine that he'd have to listen to someone 11 months older every work day, I would not either. Someone whose career ended at 20 and never really played a legit Bundesliga game. Hard to command respect.
Damn, I though our guys were half-hearted when it comes to the Nations League, but our reigning and defending World Champ now has two draws and two losses in a group with Croatia, Denmark and Austria. Eliminated from the Final Four already, may even relegate.
Never liked French football to be honest other than the Zidane led teams........very condescending futbal with flashes of brilliance and then flashes of chaos on defense.
After signing Alvarez and now Haaland City are set to sell Jesus to Arsenal to try and clear up the current logjam of 1st team forwards. Looks like City will use the funds from the Jesus sale to fund moves for Kalvin Phillips with Fernandinho moving on and Marc Cucerella to give them a true left footed left back after having Cancelo play there last season. There is also talk that Sterling could be on the move as playing time even with Jesus gone can be tough to come by up front with Haaland, Alvarez, Foden, Mahrez and Grealish *on board.
Sterling could still move but the team he was most linked to (Chelsea) is about to finalize the signing of Raphina from Leeds for something north of 60 million pounds which for Leeds is about a 3x return on their investment. City have been linked to Kalvin Phillips from Leeds as a replacement for Fernandinho to them team with Rodri as the holding mids for City. Wonder if the influx of cash from the Raphina sale will change that.
