they made the mistake giving him $36 mil. that's where the mistake actually was, which was stupid from day 1
Theis was never the problem. It was him in the lineup with Tate that was highly dysfunctional. And then Al P kind of made him an afterthought once the Turk played himself into more minutes. He's a good teammate, a good player but in hindsight we probably shouldn't have signed him. We got out of the contract easily though so no big deal
Guys who are physically limited, but function well in team concepts, have absolutely no business on a team like we're currently fielding. His only value is to eat some solid bench minutes and provide depth on a good team. When you are putting yourself in the right spot but nobody else ever is, all you are is a space clogger and rebounding liability. Never should have signed him for this team, but was wisely able to get rid of his contract.
We will never know because the Rockets didn't have a system. It's been 2yrs under Silas and I still don't know what their system is. Who they are! So we don't know if he could have been productive here or not, same for C. Wood. Boston's HC came in and in his 1st yr implemented a system built on defense and now they are in the Finals.
I'm pretty sure Silas or even Paul Silas would be able to take this Celtics team to a successful season. Conversely i don't think Ime Udoka or Paul Udoka would have a chance in hell with the current Rockets who were designed for the lottery
(P.S.) The problem was we shouldn’t of signed him in the first place! He had no business being on our team since he wasn’t in our rebuilding timeline! ……. ……. …….
