I was thinking that the Twins were going to regress to the mean at some point, but a quick count shows only 33 games against >.500 teams outside their division for the rest of the year. They are currently 24-10 against their division and <.500 outside their division. Playoff team for sure, if not a top 2 seed.
I think they win their division. Perhaps even easily. But given the fact they play in the worst division in baseball, and they are only .500 outside of it, they look like a team that will merrily waltz into the playoffs with high hopes and get thwarted in the first round.
No doubt they have the look of a quick one and done playoff team. I was just thinking about the regular season, it may be difficult for the Astros to displace the Yankees and Twins for a first round bye if things keep at this pace.
I assume that in order to be a top 2 seed and get a bye a team must be a division winner, right? If the two best records come from the same division then just like in prior years the 2nd place team in that division is regulated to the Wild Card round.
Astros win even on their off day. Blue Jays beat the Angels 6-3 to open up their 4-game set in Anaheim.
I’m glad Astros avoided signing Pham. He has a cool story with his sight issues, but the guy is a hotheaded moron. Joc can be a character at times too, but it’s nice not to have to worry about either in the Astros dugout…we have been blessed with grade A professionals across the board over the past few years, outside of Rat Fiers and Gomez (oddly enough, and I guess Osuna and Cosart or one one those pitchers too), I can’t think on any major problem characters in a while, kudos to Astros org on constructing their rosters.
