I would prefer to gamble with 3 and the cap space... but hard to find a top 20 scorer you could see a team willing to deal and you’re not dealing #3 for less... Free agents aren't a great list after this year...
Not saying there isn't some truth to what you say but multiple reports came out the Rockets turned down multiple late 1s from contenders for Gordon at the deadline. Not a fan of Wood's defense, but he's a good player on a fair contract. 17.9 / 10.1 57.6 efg% 39% from 3 Here are the list of 10+ rebounds and 35%+ from 3: KAT Valanciunas Embiid I leave Ayton out since he attempts .3 per game. Vucevic is there most years but not last year... So there are 30 teams and 4-5 similar players to Wood. There would be demand for a spacing big...
I think the inclusion of Russell complicates this trade. I think a cleaner trade is something like: Wood, Gordon, #3 for KAT and #19. I probably wouldn't do it, and the Timberwolves probably wouldn't do it, but it is an interesting discussion.
Would rather have Banchero than Kat... And I know someone might reply with a bunch of numbers supporting why Kat is a great and underrated player but this dude isn't the guy

I hope there is a strong demand for both, but I think other teams see the same warts on Wood that we do. I also think other teams know we are desperate to unload them. For a while, I thought Stone was really in Christian’s corner and wanted to retain him, but the Green, KPJ explosion without him will put a lot of pressure from the fan base to move him.
Houston In: John Collins, Clint Capela and a future 2nd Rounder Atlanta In: Eric Gordon, Christian Wood, Usman Garuba and the 17th pick Houston gets a defensive big man and a capable 3/4 man to run with Green and the 3rd pick. Atlanta gets two players who can create their own shot so they don't have to rely on Young plus a young defensive big plus a first rounder KPJ Green Collins/3rd Pick Sengun/3rd pick Capela Maybe follow up with trading the #3 pick to the Kings or Pacers for the #4 or #6 pick and future unprotected pick. Pick Sharpe/Ivey with the 4 or 6.
Why would we be desperate to unload them? Late first round picks aren't a big help to us. We have a lot of young guys already. Their cap space for us is the issue. We don't want long term money back for them which weakens their trade vaue. That lower value makes it less important to move them. If anything Wood's bird rights are of value because they can retain him as a backup at a starters salary by going over the cap if they choose to. Wood has positive trade value. Most players have flaws and focusing on his and ignoring he's got a rare skillset is selling him short. He's one of a half a dozen guys in the nba for a popular skill... stretch bigs who rebound... Most stretch bigs are weak on the glass...
Too much imo. Wood and Tate for #7 + filler. Heard this on a podcast. Then trade 7 and 17 to move up more. Maybe to #4.
Agreed. Portland will still need to whiff on Jerami Grant to consider that. I would imagine Portland would be more interested in Garuba or Josh Christopher over EG, but maybe not.
definitely not. If they’re trading it’s for true experienced win now players. If they want a young player they’d be staying at 7.
with the addition of Josh Hart at the deadline I don’t see EG as being a big target for them; especially with Simmons emergence. I think he’s have a lot of value to other teams. Wood and Tate on the other hand…I think that would be enticing.
I don’t mind the idea of targeting the #7 pick. Not sure what package it would take to get Portland interested. And would they actually want our #17? Might one of our first round picks from last year (not Green) or a first rounder next year (the Milwaukee pick) be more appealing? To me, some of the players that might fall to us at 17 might fit pretty well. But these guys in the 7-10 range have great upside (Eason, Daniels, in particular).
