Apple and oranges IMO as Manu was a beast going to the rack, that's totally not Thompson's game. He is a perimeter dude and Manu's prime didn't take place in the crazy 3 point era either. I guess people argue about a possible HOF inclusion due to his shooting which is up there with Reggie Miller's. And he has better scoring stats than Reggie. Reggie did play in the Era of reduced scoring though.
It's already apples and oranges as GSW and SAS are diff teams and have diffirent win rates. Manu Ginobili has better WS/48 than Kevin Garnett, Chris Bosh, Kevin Love, Paul Pierce, Kobe Bryant and Hakeem. Those people quoting win shares just dont understand the stat.
Thing I notice which is very reminiscent of Harden during a critical playoff run is that Luka Doncic only gets about a quarter or less of the fouls he should be getting against the Warriors. Luka is a big strong guy but getting beat up this much has got to take a toll.
what advanced stats or metrics do you feel do a good job then? if you don't like win shares, vrop, ws/48, or any of the offensive/defense rating stuff, what impact stats do you believe in? Every single one says klay is just a solid player, but not an allstar level guy and certainly not close to hof or anything
If you think the win rates of the teams have any bearing on win shares than it would be you who doesn’t understand the stat. It’s easy enough to look up how the stat is calculated. It’s based on possession efficiency. How many wins the team a player is on has ZERO input into the calculation of the stat win shares. There is no built in boost in the calculation because one player might be on a 60 win team and another player on a 50 win team. The formula does not take into account actual wins. The 2nd part of your post would be why it’s necessary to avoid comparing players in wildly different roles. You listed a bunch of guys who spent the majority of their careers as the head hancho. Manu as a main guy wouldn’t have nearly as strong of a winning impact as he did in his complimentary role. Neither would Klay. Klay vs Manu is an apt win share comparison. Both 2A/2B guys on dynastic teams.
Nah based on your own definition of win shares win shares doesnt take the position of the player into the formula either so why should that matter? There is no built in boost in win shares whether the player is the head honcho or 2A/2B. So maybe you can explain how Manu has higher win share than Chris Bosh/Kevin Love/Ray Allen when he is obv inferior to those guys. Manu also has higher win share than Pau Gasol on the Lakers. So you saying Manu was much better than Gasol who literally turned the Lakers from 0.500 team to championship? Manu ws/48: 0.19 Pau Gasol on Lakers: 0.185 Bosh on Heat: 0.162 Ray Allen on Celts: 0.163 Kevin Love on Cavs: 0.152 Dude's a 13 ppg scorer in 25 mins. If he didnt play on the Spurs he wouldnt be on even 1 all star team. This is a case of using an advanced stat blindly just to prove a dumb point.
Win shares is calculated by assigning “winning value” to certain statistics. Mainly how efficient your offensive and defensive possessions are as a player. When you are the head honcho. You are responsible for many, many more possessions than other complimentary players. Making it harder to maintain a higher possession efficiency. Manu, in his smaller role, excelled greatly at adding a high rate of winning value. It’s really no different that TS% in that way. A high TS% on low volume is not as impressive as a slightly lower TS% on super high volume. It’s harder to maintain the efficiency as volume goes up. I very much understand the stat and am in no way using it blindly.
Still didnt explain how Manu is better than Pau Gasol, CB, Ray Allen and KLove While you are it, can you explain how Nando de Colo is better than Jalen Green?
Is Scott foster in GS tonight to end the series or extend it.....I believe the latter as everyone basically is expecting GS to end it home
Curry bout to show the world he is nowhere near Harden's lvl..... The lowest lvl possible in the playoffs....
doncic is getting fouled left and right and no calls looks like karma has gotten the warriors tho as curry appears to be injured
