This is the biggest load of BS I have heard in a long time. 85% of gun violence is by men, and women are the victim over 50% of the time. Using your absurd standard, there are laws that help facilitate male aggression - like the fact that guns are even legal. We live in a patriarchy, men make and interpret the laws the vast majority of the time.
The Republicans only want to blame mental health for school and mass shootings. What a load of crap. Is mental health not a problem in other countries? How are other countries preventing these mass shootings? Damn, these people REALLY love their guns and the money that flows to them from the gun lobby. Disgusting.
I don't care if it works or not - there's a civic responsiblity here that every citizen should have to prevent this since absolute ****ing cowards like Abbott just want you to forget and then buy more guns to make this more likely. Protest is all we have right now. If all you have is the ability to embarrass them and making them feel uncomfortable, then you do that. I am so ****ing sick of doing nothing and waiting for the filibuster to change or the court to expand or whatever.
No, it isn't an empty argument. The reality is that men are responsible for the overwhelming majority of violent crime in the USA and across the world and historically. Men also have made the laws that have largely failed us. We live in a patriarchy. That is slowly changing, but no one wants to address the 800 lbs gorilla in the room. I don't care if you are butt hurt over the fact she said the shooter was likely a white male, she was right.... and had a 95% chance of being right. Rather than getting your white male upset, look at the realities of what is going on around you.
The fact that they respond to them the way they do - attacking him and dismissing him - shows that they view the situation as "their team" and the moment is more about political posturing and opportunity versus doing anything serious. They don't care one bit about those kids. They care about presenting the right image to the public because they know that there is nothing they are willing to do.
Having moved out of Texas years ago.... it is amazing how out of touch and non representative of people the Texas government leadership is.
People do not understand the 2nd Amendment ties directly to Article 1 Section 8 Clause 12 . The Founders never wanted a standing army, so it gave Congress the ability to "raise and support Armies" The word "raise" is very important here. The United States was only to have an army during times of war. Never a standing army. In fact appropriations had to be done every 2 years. The raising of these armies was done by enlisting the state militias. Well-regulated militias. So if we want to look at the "originalist" interpretation of the Constitution we have to realize these two things are tied together.
What’s absolutely disgusting is that Ted Cruz and Abbott can sit up there pretending to care about the children, then once they go back to their hotel room they’re going to have blank checks from the NRA at their disposal for their next campaign. These dudes are sick ****s.
We can’t even pass the frickening ERA. Because of roadblocks made by the right. We can’t even pass the Equal Rights Amendment. It is sickening
There is this vid of a family friend of one of the victims saying he is ashamed of being an American citizen. And the response from one of the aids is "Why don't you leave then?" Those are fighting words. God forbid we want a better America, where people who try to stick their version of the bible down our throats actually carried themselves like servants of Christ. I'm more American than these losers. I watch the Lions on thanksgiving. Cheer for team USA when they play El Tri and eat endless turkey hot dogs on July 4th but their solution ...Why don't you leave. F' that. Like 4 years ago, Beto will win all of the big cities but unfortunately too many Huntsvilles across TX .
Funny that in other countries there are families like that too. Somehow only in American you see this outcome. Why is that?
It's been 30 years since the passage of the most recent amendment. That's a long time. Biggest break before that was 39 years from Reconstruction amendments to the income tax amendment 1870 to 1909, the era of Retrenchment, Jim Crow and the Guilded Age.
