If you read his post correctly, he was not comparing the two as players in any way other than in the situation of their drafting scenario.
What redundant player was Luka not drafted over? He was saying to take the best player, ie Luka, regardless of fit. Therefore comparing Paolo to Luka. That’s the issue, there is no consensus. Paolo isn’t Luka
Jabari's inability to take the ball to the rim is downright frightening to me. There are plays where he has a path to the rim and instead stops, let's the defender recover and takes a contested mid range over him. Another funny thing with him is that he has this jab step that college defenders bit on. NBA defenders will not. He can't drive. He won't drive. So just crowd him. Even if he does drive he doesn't have the athleticism or craftiness that top tier finishers do. Paolo has a jab step too but he can pretty much do one of a million things so you have to respect the step. Same is not true for Jabari.
Except Lopez was an all star and 20ppg player before he got to the Bucks. Not to mention, he's a legit 7fter
GM’s don’t spot talent. Scouts and coach’s do. There’s a team of individuals supporting the GM helping him make a decision including assistants in his office. One man fallacy.
Nobody tabbed Tatum as a plus defender coming out of college. He was drafted 3 because he had upside as an offensive weapon. He's gotten better defensively and that should be the purpose of Paolo. Defense is effort,iq,and want to. Curry isn't a great defender, but he gives effort consistently especially since he's gotten older.
You’re right in your point. Not sure what it has to do with what I said. No one thought Kawhi was going to be an offensive force, just a defensive stopper. Look how he’s turned out. We don’t know what any of these players will be in the league, what we can base projections off is what they’ve done. Lying about a player to prop up your fav is not productive.
Harden had multiple stretches in Houston where he was a plus defender inside and an acceptable presence on the perimeter. He usually leveled up when needed and the same tendency is applicable to most superstars.
People are already bickering in here even though we haven't drafted a single player, let alone seen said player play NBA minutes. Just be happy we are picking top 3. There are 3 great prospects and we get to draft one of them. Do we need to shore up our defense? Yes, but you don't draft a player for fit when you are rebuilding. You pick the player that you think is the best out of all of the available players at your pick. I can't believe we are arguing BPA and fit when we are on year 2 of our rebuild. We do not have that luxury.
Every time I watch more Paolo, I get more excited. What a stud. I think his closest comp is really a more interior oriented Lebron.
This is absurd. Lebron is an all-time athlete and playmaker. Paolo is a pretty good athlete and a pretty good playmaker for his position; not in the same stratosphere as Lebron in either category. Paolo’s closest comp is Julius Randle.
The only downside of Paolo is his team defense, looking at his advanced stats, he's actually quite a good isolation defender. You can never not have enough ball handlers on a team, especially when our PG played SG his entire life. I don't like Julius Randle comparisons because if you watch Randle play, he's clearly a selfish player with ego issues. Paolo, from what I've seen is not a selfish player and he'll make the right passes and plays for the team to succeed. Even if his ceiling ends up being a Julius Randle, it wouldn't be like we made a mistake because it's a consensus weak draft.
Randle is a way more interior guy though. Clumsy when he operates on the perimeter IMO. Banchero is fluid scorimg and passing on all 3 levels.
