$120k is not a lot in the Harris County budget and nothing at all compared to the expenses we incur to protect relatives of certain ex-presidents we don't even care about. Having a bidding process would delay the security protection the commissioners all admit she needs. Seems disingenuous to object on the basis that it's a no-bid contract when you know that such bidding would undermine the very security you're trying to address. A bidding process would probably itself cost more in man-hours wasted than it would save on the contract. My own company wouldn't require an RFP process for a contract that small -- Procurement doesn't even want to be bothered about things under $500k. Dumb political grandstanding because they knew it would pass even when they voted against.
Its an administrative position. Anyone can do the job. I liked Emmett also, everyone likes him but how he handled Harvey is just a matter of not screwing up. Disaster relief money will be there, most disaster relief efforts if screwed up are screwed up by residents being overlooked or ignored
With the recent indictment of members of her staff any contract that goes through a no bid approval we can expect this. Harris County isn't just Democratic, it's very 55% to 42% and increasingly Democratic. Attacking Hidalgo is a lost cause other than to make things uncomfortable
Sure. I'm not too happy about possible corruption in her office. But a security detail is not the issue to score your points on.
It is stupid, but so is voting for an unqualified moron like Donald Trump or a crook like Paxton or a spineless pandering self serving jackass like Ted Cruz… a majority of Texans voted for all three, so I fail to see how voting for Hidalgo is a big deal.
The developers and the folks who have run Houston for decades are frantic to get rid of Lena Hidalgo and think they have the perfect vehicle in the Spaniard American Republican backed by incredible amounts of money.
Makes total sense . All the 'behind the scenes' power is republican but they cant get control of any part of the local government. What incredible power.
Keep going back to Jim Crow era voting laws and maybe they will...just because they have money and power doesn't mean a majority of people will vote them into official government positions. You sound like an idiot that's lived under a rock the past couple decades.
