Walk me through why they would panic?

 

They want to protect their sources, if this guy testifies that they got the video from Amber Heard and that she tipped them off about the TRO it could lead to perjury charges against her since she blatantly lied on the stand about it.

If people don't think TMZ will protect the anonymity of their sources, they'll stop leaking to them and then TMZ is doomed.

TMZ basically edited the kitchen video where they cut the end with Amber smirking unscathed, that is not in the TMZ version.

 

Also, TMZ did this to themselves. Everybody was using the video from the trial on their you tubes. Apparently...illegally. TMZ claimed the video as their property in order to get people to stop using it. It worked. However, the lawyers figured out that if TMZ owned the rights to the video, then the rights to it must have been sold to them by somebody. But Who? And now the lawyers want to know who it was and what did the video look like before it was edited. If it was Amber, as noted above, that be bad.
