    Chicken franks fried
    Bologna fried
    Everything is better fried.

Chicken was always pretty cheap, especially thighs and drumsticks.

My go to cheap meal then and still now is a small can of rolled anchovies with capers, garlic, onion, oil and some italian seasoning with angel hair pasta.

Medium heat- heat up oil, garlic and onion(slivers)

Add can of anchovies and let them render down with the garlic and onion. Sprinkle italian seasoning.

    Stir in cooked pasta.

bag of chicken quarters, sack of potatoes, carrots, cilantro, serrano peppers and a bag of rice and I can feed a family for 4 for a week.

Did it for myself for two years. The only .99 store comes in clutch too.

There seems to be a clear discrepancy in this thread between poor and broke/too lazy to go to the store.

Sardine tacos.Exactly what it sounds like. You get those sardines in tomato sauce and place them inside the Mexican tortillas. 8 yr old me liked it.
That's why eses can relate to biggie. Now I drink goat's milk when I'm thirsty.

When I was left home alone, I'd make the butter sandwiches. Toaster caught fire because I would spread the butter first then place it in the toaster.

Chicken was cheap as **** back then, you could get a whole chicken for between 2 and 3 dollars.

I had a store where you could get 4 big ass breasts for less than a dollar a piece.

If you could actually cook, you could get a lot cheap.

What is poor? Like <$1/pp per meal?

Once upon a time I lived on a budget of $20/week for groceries. This was actually by choice, and not too bad. Lots of cereal, pancakes, PB&J, & ramen. Tacos were my occasional treat
